Man Arrested For Sending Death Threats To Blizzard

    Source

A Sacramento man has been arrested and charged with sending multiple death threats to Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of World of Warcraft and Overwatch.

Stephen Cebula, 28, is accused of sending messages “over the internet” on July 2 & 3 saying he “may or may not pay [Blizzard] a visit with an AK47 amongst some other ‘fun’ tools,” and “might be inclined to ‘cause a disturbance’ at [Blizzard’s] headquarters in California with an AK47 and a few other ‘opportunistic tools.’”

He was arrested on July 12 following an FBI investigation, and if found guilty faces a maximum penalty of five years jail and a $250,000 fine.

This is something that seems to be common in general, especially in sports. I couldn't imagine being so pissed off at something so inconsequential that I would take the time and risk my freedom to write death threats.

Rofl, what was the guy so mad about? And how come his full name is being mentioned? Is this normal practice in such cases?

Lol! I am still happy with mine after the changes in the patch.

It is so stupid to make threats like this over a video game. The guy has to have a screw loose and only one oar in the water. Maybe he needs to get out and work hard and spend less time wrapped up in a video game. :P

As long as the accused is an adult, criminal cases in the U.S. are usually a matter of public record.

Who knows why the nut case is mad.

In regards to his full name, once someone is charged with a crime, their name is almost always published unless they are a minor.

Wow, I guess when Bnet forum rants no longer scratch that complaining itch, death threats are the next logical step.

The US doesn't have confidentiality laws for the free press. Anything that is public record (IE: Names and arrest records) are fair game for the press to report. If you're willing to risk your freedom like this why should you be allowed confidentiality?

OT: Pretty fucked up that someone would do this over a stupid ass video game...

Free speech does not cover things like death threats and yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.
