On a more serious note, police need to chill the fuck out when it comes to dogs. Statistically, the amount of 20-40 year old men who are killed by dogs each year is almost 0 %. Though interestingly to their credit, every single male above the age of 10 that was killed by a dog was killed by a pit bull in 2016 so far.

I own a rottweiler who is 2.5 yrs old and weighs over 100 lbs, he is strong and fit due to his walks and runs. In certain parts of the US I would feel terrified that either myself or my dog may not live to see the end of the year.

People can bash Canada all they want, but I feel significantly safer up here and so do all minorities and dog owners here.

This sounds like nothing but a cop who was bored, knew he was pursuing a dead end, and took an opportunity to shoot something with 'the cool gun'.

He showed up to serve a 10 year old warrant while admitting that he was aware the recipient likely wasn't there, the dog lunged at him from behind a fence. He decided that the dog was now a threat, went back to his car to grab a rifle, and shot it in the head through the fence in front of playing children at a birthday party.
There, now you're all caught up.

There seem to be two narratives there, because at one point in the story it clearly states that the officer entered the property and was "attacked" by the dog. What I don't get is why he then went back to his car and grabbed the rifle when he could have simply sat outside the fence and yelled for the family to get control of the dog.

If its even factual that he entered the property, and didn't instead just see the dog jump at the fence and then decided to shoot it because it was a pitbull.

Not really, that is a bias put on it by the media, which ironically is most likely the exact reason this officer shot the dog because it looked like a pitbull. One of our family dogs was a pitbull and he never hurt a fly in his entire life. Why? Because he was well trained.
