What about the feminist comedian who's gig got canceled at Goldsmits because people were going to protest because she wasn't a SWERF?

He's far from the only comedian that has this opinion either, so I'm not even sure how you think he's just doing this for publicity or whatever.
...he's never performed in colleges, guy. that's my point.

It's like taking me as an example of why no one goes to concerts anymore, because I said that I heard someone say they're a drug-fueled mess just waiting for a police bust when I've never been to a concert, and have no interest in doing so.

    *sulks in a corner*

How dare you. I bet you don't like Friends either.
Other people can decide that for you.

Case in point. Fucking damn Daniel.

Exactly. The only limitations should be where it can cause physical harm such as shout FIRE in a crowded theater, etc.

I have no idea who you're referring to with "damn daniel". If it's one of the meme people, then if they could find the original uploader they could sue for slander. Not so much the people that piggybacked off it, though I think legally they *could* if they cared enough to show that it adversely harmed their career or otherwise caused them damages and were willing to spend mass amounts of money on tracking people down to ultimately win nothing because most users were too broke to pay / found non-liable as they were not the original producer.

Public people are literally politicians in that respect. Celebrities attempt to sue liable all the time. Some have been successful. There is basically nothing you can't say about someone running for public office though, the reason being that a politician has power over normal people and could use that to their advantage, which you can see could easily go out of control.

Some of my coworkers called me Sheldon.

Then my mom spontaneously did as well.

I don't know what to think of the world anymore :|

I'm pretty sure politicians aren't considered public persons in the same way; they are considered government officials.

Legal shit gets weird sometimes. They're public workers, but not public persons for slander laws, I believe. Not applicable to all public workers; the vast majority are still private persons.

I wasn't going for slander. I was going for becoming a public person. From being a student to being a shit meme that was a challenge to escape because of his friend on Vine. Internet people, vapid radio hosts and annoying coworkers made sure I knew who he was, even if I don't KNOW him.

Hence why I said other people can make you public. Which then makes you open game, according to you.

It's all good, Big Bang Theory has never been my cup of tea but I must say I'm shocked that you have such a strong dislike for Seinfeld. Perhaps you just haven't seen the good episodes? I will admit there have been some bad ones mixed in, but some of the shit on Seinfeld IMO hasn't been topped even by today's standards.

    SMH.

Someone using your image != you becoming a public person. That makes the original person guilty of slander or possibly even distribution, with the person being a victim of that action. It's not at all comparable to, say, an actor who chooses to become a public person, which is what the law addresses.

Seriously, just go look up the fucking laws before you try to come in with all these "loopholes".

... and he intends to not perform at colleges, for a very clear reason he cited. You may disagree with the reason or feel that it's invalid, but he's saying he's not going to perform at them because of the PC environment. It seems pretty clear we are just going to go in circles here lol, I have no idea why though. You seem to be on this thing that since he hasn't performed at colleges previously, that there must be some other secret reason. Have you considered that he previously wasn't interested, but would consider it down the road, but now isn't going to because of said PC environment?

He doesn't actually say that, though.

He says "I don't do colleges, but people tell me they're PC". That's not he doesn't go to colleges, but is disinclined now because they're too PC. It's literally "I don't play at colleges. People that do say this though!".

As I said, it was using a well-known name to give it traction, and I find it stupid.

I get the feeling we disagree on many* topics (I could be wrong.), but I totally agree with that ^, Seinfeld, and Friends, even the stupidity of people "identifying" as geeks/nerds. lol

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Public+person

". A famous person whose life and behavior are the focus of intense public interest and scrutiny.
    2. Law A person who is determined to be sufficiently well-known or famous as to prevail in a lawsuit for libel or slander only when the defendant is shown to have acted with malice.

Noun 1. public figure - a well-known or notable person; "they studied all the great names in the history of France"; "she is an important figure in modern music"
    name, figure
important person, influential person, personage - a person whose actions and opinions strongly influence the course of events"

Now would you fuck off with your "omg loophole hahahahahahahahahaha".

None of the meme-people's life and behavior are the focus of intense public interest or scrutiny, nor are they famous or well-known by anything but a sole picture, nor have they strongly influenced the course of events. A single picture being memed down not make you a public figure.
