I am a Democrat, mostly from tradition I guess. The Democrat party keeps moving farther to the left though, and I might become an independent.

Strangely enough, so are Democrats. People always claim they are socialists, but that is because they don't know what the fucking word means.

Compared to the shit that Republicans have given us over the last 35 years? Democrats are LITERALLY your best friends. Democrats have saved the economies while Republicans have destroyed it.

While they deny it actually being real.
The sad thing is, people like you, think that Democrats, specifically Hillary, are coming for your guns. Not only would that be political suicide but that is about as stupid of a reason to solely vote Republican. I know a lot of people that love the Democrat platform on everything but their gun stance and their gun stance isn't all that dramatic. They just don't want criminals and mentally unstable people to have a fucking gun. Apparently Republicans do with all the shit they are doing to defend that position.
I'm Neither but if someone put a literal gun to my head and forced me to choose one or the other I would choose democrat for 3 reasons:
1. Trickle down economics doesn't work, get a better economic plan if you want me to vote for you.
2 Being gay isn't a choice. Not once have I thought: "Well haven't gotten pussy in awhile so I might as well fuck a guy." How much and how often do you gotta be thinking about sucking a dick for you to go: "Well I don't choose to be gay so everyone else must be choosing as well."
3. The bible says we are supposed to be the stewards of the earth and the animals and to take care of our fellow man. Either get the fucking Bible out of your party or actually have polices that are in line with it.
So you love Gay marriage now? Because it is constitutionally protected. Good for you.

That isn't true though. Democrats are in the same position maybe even a bit to the right, while Republicans keep moving so far to the Right that they can't see the Democrats anymore. That is why they think they are socialists.
All these people siding because of social reasons is scary. States differ, and if you hate your state then you can move. And even then things are getting better every day. On a national level, when was the last time in the modern age the shared powers (senate, judges, president) enacted a law that essentially limited social freedoms. It's all been progressive. So thinking that just because a president who is against abortion or gay marriage, he will suddenly make it punishable by death is ludicrous. It will never pass the checks and balances, and it seems to me the people who vote on emotion and vehemently screech SO AND SO RIGHTS fail to grasp that concept
Minus the race and police relations because Obama refuses the address the elephant in the room for whatever reason, things have never been better social freedoms wise in the U.S.
Majority rule, minority rights. I feel like the majority has taken a back seat, and now we are seeing minority rule and minority rights. Which is quite scary
Theoretically speaking (not American) I wouldn't be a Republican, I hated Bush Jr and I associate republicans with the religious right and racists since the 1990s
I would have been a Democrat all the way until the last few years and I was pro-Obama in 2008
But left-wing politics has gone away from the simple ideals of secular equality and into SJW insanity, class warfare, feminist misandry, etc -- so I can't be a Democrat either
Just like in the UK, the polarisation of politics in the USA has lost me, so I just ignore politics for the most part
I'm an independent, in the middle somewhere with a left leaning social ideal. I'd usually vote Dem, because I can't tolerate all the tyrannical crap the Reps seem to be pulling under the guise of "well I love America and if you don't agree with me you must be a traitor that hates America".
They seem bent on dividing us as a nation, rather than put forth any decent ideas/solutions of their own. Take the current presidential term, they'd rather filibuster and stomp their feet with fingers in their ears than accept that we have a problem and try to offer a solution that doesn't segregate half of the country.
But this election cycle, I can't really accept either side of this insane set up.
"Believing something is not an accomplishment. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because “strength of belief” is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. Listen to any “die-hard” conservative or liberal talk about their deepest beliefs and you are listening to somebody who will never hear what you say on any matter that matters to them — unless you believe the same. Wherever there is a belief, there is a closed door."
I'm a Democrat because I've never had the luxury of being sufficiently insulated from the predation of right wing parties such as the Republicans.
I'm a republican because I'm against over regulation, gun control, higher taxes etc. I'm not really loyal to the party though and if they were to nominate some crazy religious nut I'd find myself voting third party. Lucky for me Trump ain't that.
Sorry but not everyone has the money to move like that. And no things haven't "never been better" when it comes to social issues. You have 1 party that is still trying to legislate gay rights, transgender rights, and a womens right to choose away. There isn't a minority rule. There is just giving minorities the same rights the majority has. Which is why a gay person's right to marry was given to them.
If I were an US citizen I would probably be forced to vote Democrat, given the two-party situation over there. Ideally I'd like to vote for something else, something closer to social democracy.
So I'm a left-winger (social democrat/humanist specifically), so I believe in equality (each according to his own) and human value, maximum freedom and social mobility and just generally a society that values logic and science over emotion and tradition.
"In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Paradox of tolerance
I'm more of an independent than a democrat, though I registered democrat so I could participate in primaries. In most cases, I've agreed with the democratic candidate in the past, so it was easier to decide which to register with. I feel we need to look out for each other and help those who truly need it. I'm anti war and anti corporate welfare. I believe in personal freedoms as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. I am pro science, which ar one time meant something to the republican party (funding of NASA), but now republicans seen to hav taken a stand against (climate change, sustainable renewable energy, etc.). I follow all rhe candidates though, because to me, coting record means more to me than which party you represent. In the cases where they may not have voting records, I read a lot of what they say or thrown their support behind in the past.
If i were a US citizen i wouldn't identify with either republican or democrat, both parties and their candidates just seem too slimy to be able to like them, i probably wouldn't vote if i lived in USA, or i'd look up 3rd partys a bit more
