I'm watching Grimgar right now,

someone care to explain why the best 'serious-alternate-world/mmo-rpg anime' didn't get a 2nd season yet but shows like SAO or Log Horizon, which feels like it's is both written and directed by a twelve year old, do?

From what I could tell, even the LN of Grimgar is written much better than 90% I've read so far (and I'm not talking about the story here).

Japanese people can't have *that* much of a shit taste, can they?

Well... Those 3 are completely different. The only thing they have in common is the "game" part.

SAO, LH, and Grimgar are completely different anime in the first place. No point asking why the former got sequels while the latter didn't when they're aimed at completely different audiences. Plus as others said, Grimgar barely aired two seasons ago while both SAO and LH are much older.

How are they different. All of these shows feature people who are stuck in a different world with mmo/rpg features. So where does the 'different audience' come from? They are as similar as it gets without having the same story and LH even HAD the same story as SAO, pretty much.
S2 for all of them except for Grimgar were confirmed very early too (LH announced it during the credits) and SAO was 2 seasons from the start (24 episodes if I remember correctly, could be wrong though.)

The LN didn't get licensed and from what I remember the pre-order sales went poorly/mediocre, which is why I'm doubting a 2nd season (of the same quality).

You might have gotten the idea that SAO is similar to LH from the anime adaptation, but one of them is supposed to be philosophical romance about whether the time they spent stuck there was really a time of their lives, if their relationship was really real and how it made them stronger afterwards, things like this. The other one is a fantasy/adventure show.

The target audience is literally the same, this is not 18+ fantasy -vs- LotR. It's all shounen, pretty generic and the only difference isthe quality of the story/writing/directing.

That's really not the case. You're comparing the most superficial similarities and call the shows the same. SAO is an action anime with much focus on romance, taking on some interesting questions about technology in the progress(with a varying degree of success). It has some problems, which can happen when you adapt a non-action focused novel as an action-focused anime and randomly cram short stories into the main story. LH is a pure action adventure, literally nothing else to say about it. Grimgar is a mix of fantasy SoL and drama with some action, without an actual story. The focus is entirely on the group's interpersonal relationships and their struggle to make a living in a hostile world. How are those series similar? It's like saying Lord of the Rings and Warhammer are similar because both are fantasy and have orcs.

I really liked Mary. Not waifu-like, but as a character. I liked the chemistry she built up with Haru as well; they had an organic relationship even without shipping implications. The whole setup of the show was pretty good, really hoping it gets another season (or at least novel translations, official or otherwise).

Mary grew on us through the season. Everyone liked Yume more in the beginning

If you simplify them to their shell then I guess you can say this. This opinion of yours probably come from the weird SAO adaptation that tried to transform it into an action anime.

I'm not sure what you mean, I think she was Alter in London just because that's how she was summoned. They did give a reason for her increase in chest size, though (magical spear gives magical gifts lol). Maybe you got confused with that?

This version of her is because Bedivere didn't throw Excalibur in the lake like he was supposed to, so Arturia didn't die. She ended up ascending because of the spear and became a Divine Spirit. She's barely even Arturia anymore, she's basically just an avatar of the spear and can't exist without it.

Pretty great episode for sure, got rid of most of the worries I had for the adaption of this season, as the previous episodes had cut out a few important Illya moments, but here we got everything as it should be.

I personally started for the fate...which was fulfilled finally in ep...6? kuro/illya-archer thing then read the manga after that hoping for more hypes then hit where s2 started...I'll admit they're really turning it up compared to the manga rofl

Yeah, season 2 really cranked up the lewdness, which I really don't care fore. The humor was really good, like when they learned what BL was. I choked on my fucking drink I was laughing so hard.

I could do without the loli lewdness but the rest of the show is pretty solid.
