Hello, i searched a lot in google but i didn't find any answers to my question even this blog (https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/blog/20167051) didn't help much.
So, i am still "new" in competitive (i am still doing my placement matches) but not in the game as i am already 30lvl, i have seen many friends of mine that play competitive to have their account levels reset, some of them went so far like from 90+ all the way down to one! For example: 5* (with a star after the number)
So can someone explain to me how do you get your account level reset by playing competitive play and what does this star means, is it some kind of ranking like 1 star, 2 stars, etc.

after 100 you go back down to 1 and get a star and so on

It's called prestige, and it's not a reset. Each star represents 100 levels.

There's prestige icons (stars) for up to 1890 levels but every time you hit level 101 you get a new star and it resets back to 1.
