If it were trying to be historically accurate, then shitting on their cast decision has some merit.
But this is more of fantasy, so anything goes IMO. Movie looks even more cringe worthy than 300.

Why the hell is that getting backlash? The movie does not portray Cruise as Japanese, he's an American who was taken as POW.
The wise wolf who's pride is her wisdom isn't so sharp as drunk.
Bestest casting since
No western mercenaries allowed in a fictional fantasy chinese wall movie.
If this were the case then we wouldn't even have lead actors in the first place. People like familiarity and what they know, thus they are more likely to see a film with a big name in it. Specific actors are cast to draw attention to the film, sorry but that is simply a fact.

Reminds me of Tom Cruise in Last Samurai and Reeves in 47 Ronin; both of which weren't bad movies really- but still gave a chuckle about the casting choices.
I enjoyed the Last Samurai with Tom Cruise.
Maybe we should all stfu and understand that it is a fantasy, born out of some creator's mind, and not as any sort of racist jab.
Which is accurate as the clone army is used up, and there were belive it or not black empire citizens and stormtroopers after the clones are made of imperial citizens.

The one with Keenu Reeves was good too. 13 ronin or something.
Now, I've had a crush on Matt Damon since the 90s but his presence and apparent role in the film is off-putting. Given his comment about representation on Project Greenlight, this whole thing doesn't surprise me. Some people just don't get it. Or refuse to.
What's the name of the character Damon is playing? Justifying Matt Damon playing that character is as simple as not contradicting that character with information in the film (such as saying that his character is Asian). You're comparing that to justifying Johnny Storm being black simply because black people exist when Johnny Storm has been a white character for decades. Established characters aren't as flexible and open ended as new characters are.
The difference is that the people you're deriding aren't advocating for changing Black Panther from a black person to a white person, but that's exactly what the "SJW's" are advocating for when it comes to established white characters.
You wanna make a movie with a black guy in a Ancient Chinese setting? Fine. You wanna make more Asian super heroes? Fine. You wanna make more female lead characters? Fine again. All that people on my side are saying is that you shouldn't just co opt already established characters. All that we who you're deriding for being fine with this while we're against existing established characters being race/sex changed want is for existing established characters to be respected.
And btw, this is also different from someone taking up the mantle of a hero. So no, I don't agree with the people who spoke out against Sam Wilson becoming Captain America because Sam Wilson is the character while Captain America is a title. So to me there's nothing wrong with a character like let's say Spider Man being another race/sex, but don't just say that he or she is still Peter Parker because they aren't.
