You'd be surprised at how many people that manage to become teachers without actually being qualified.

That's like the academy system here. The teachers don't have to have a degree in teaching, never mind one in the subject they are teaching.

Don't they need a years course that actually teaches them to teach? My sister in law is a teacher and she needed a degree in something plus a years PGCE. You are right about teachers teaching things they are not qualified though, especially substitute teachers who just get stuck where there's a gap.
