I don't get how people can make and sell unofficial pokemon merch, like the GO team shirts you see everywhere and you bearly (geddit? I'm making the best ou- oh f it) any takedown notices about them.

But a NOT-FOR-PROFIT game gets warheads aimed at it...

Unless 'tendo forces them to pay fees for making profit's via their TMs. In which case, it just makes them look like perfectly-legal ass hats for taking down free games because theey can't line their pockets with even more money.

Also, they have to legally protect their IP. In some cases, if they don't try, they could risk losing it. Besides, if there are a billion fan made games, it could be difficult for someone to figure out what is real and a part of the franchise and what is not and isn't a part of it. I mean, it really has nothing to do as to if they appreciate you or not. Its business, and they can't let someone else take their IP and do with it as they wish.
