UK Police spend millions hunting Twitter and FB trolls!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...nt-trolls.html

SO the Metropolitan police is gonna spend millions of pounds to sieve through troll posts on Twitter and FB just so they can investigate offensive comments.

This truly is the death knell for free speech in the UK and a preview of things to come everywhere else!

But the worst part for me was the part where they are hiring army of volunteers trained to seek out anything they deem inappropriate on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Now dont get me wrong this isnt your common garden DM click bait cause even a Liberal Democrat is speaking out against this and not only him other civil liberties group are!

Sorry but we are no longer on a slippery slope we are truly on a fucking slide filled with oil!

We don't have free speech in the UK.

    Never have done.

Speaking as someone who's totally enjoying life without doing anything criminal, and disgusted by criminal things, I'm not happy with not being able to talk freely, but I'm very happy they're going to destroy you all, you losers.

I don't really care. Getting rid of trolls would make the internet better so why not. I guess that's my opinion on a lot of things, if the improvement is obvious, go for it.

It's pretty scary that so much time and money is being spent on going after 'troll' posts which often turn out to be politically motivated. I loathe most forms of social media because they're so hypocritical - Facebook and Twitter let a whole lot of weird, horrid stuff go unchecked. As do the police for that matter - a lot of the time stuff that is branded a 'hate crime' will be completely ignored if it involves people who are straight, male and/or white.

I'd have less of a problem with it if it was less biased.

UK has been doing this for some time, if you had problems you should have addressed them before it hit your social media account. The door swings both ways as you can't say certain things in Saudi Arabia on social media from the opposite spectrum.

    From the article:

From the sinister...Bristol MP Thangam Debbonaire, pictured, complained about a tweet after a 20-year-old student said she should ‘get in the sea’ – a dismissive phrase regularly used on Twitter. The politician replied: ‘I believe that is a threat to kill.’
Time and time again in Britain we see that public figures, including politicians like this one, take the insults and not-so-nice things the public say to them on a public platform and spin it into X-phobia, death-threats, misogyny, racism, "hate speech"; whatever they can say to make themselves a bigger victim than they actually are, when it's all in their power to stop any and all abuse by simply.. making their shit private.

I don't think the police should be wasting money or time going after people for things they say online, and I definitely don't like the idea that if I have a disagreement with a politician - or anybody - and a "community volunteer" deems some harmless but probably not nice thing I write to be a threat or "hate speech" that the police could be knocking my door demanding I explain myself. Absolute recipe for disaster.

Obviously Sadiq Khan is all for this, because he knows people criticize Islam online a lot. I'm sure he'd just love it if anybody caught making fun of Islam or Muhammad could be "brought to justice", as he puts it. Fucking idiot.

This could be a lot of fun. We can troll people in the UK but if they troll us back they go to jail?

And thanks to the media, people think the term troll is only for very nasty criminals who tell people to die and revenge porn.

are you surprised ? just look at level of hate and toxicity on mmochamp even with how stronly its moderted and think about media that are not moderated at all - ofc they have to do something

free speach means speaking up when you can back it up with real arguments - not just spew whatever racist/hate nonsense you have on your mind

regardless facebook and twitter hsould have taken care of it themselves ages ago instead waiting for countries to take care of it for them

I have no problem if they target trolls who do nothing but spew hate speech. Anything else is going to be a slipper slope tho.

The statutes forbid communication which is hateful, threatening, abusive, or insulting and which targets a person on account of disability, ethnic or national origin, nationality (including citizenship), race, religion, sexual orientation, or skin colour. The penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment, or both.

Describes a lot of Brits that post. Should just report nation bashing to their thought police instead of moderators.

it depends on if they can differentiate between offensive comments and differing opinions.

I think arresting people for speech is already putting us on the slope.

I can't wait for when in ten years I am arrested and jailed for telling someone to kill themselves in a command and conquer game some looser spent time digging up.

There are no crueler or relentless tyrants then moral busy bodies....
