Dev/Blizz/Act silencing Overwatch Players after Summer Games Cont.

    UPDATE #2:

    Jeff indirects response:
"There are two versions of the skin:

A "pristine" version and an "overgrown" version

Both are available in the Hero Gallery for 1000 credits or can be obtained via loot boxes."
-Jeff Kaplan (on referring to upcoming new skins for Reinhardt.

8/17 UPDATE: As some might noticed, Blizzard has decided to reopen those threads. If you ask me, thats them admitting some sort of fault.

The megathread is now at page 12.
    http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overw...ic/20748645835

Blizzard Activision just deleted 20-30 Popular Threads on their forums exposing their faults and broken promises, stealth changes into their agreements.

These threads were continuously passing 500 posts everyday.

    These were the highest rated.

For some reason, they deleted all of them yesterday

Thanks Blizzard, for silencing your fans. Im sure that will solve all your problems

    Hi everyone!
This thread is dedicated to Summer Loot Boxes and feedback about new system of obtaining event items with restrictions (time limit, no credits allowed). Original topic was only about "no credit allowed" rule, but now it has grown up to something more complicated, with discussions about RNG systems in general, Blizzard politics in this field and other related topics. Don't be confisued about the title, it's just a recognizable name =).
The purpose of the thread - give a feedback to Blizzard, collect opinions from mass media and other sites, propose better solutions and examples of loot systems, keep it all in one place to conviniece and order. Feel free to express your opinions and copy paste interesting materials about the subject. Pls do not insult other participants of discussion (even if they have different point of view), be civilized and have fun!

    History
August 2 - Blizzard released Summer Games Event, with over 100 new cosmetic items.
"Though they can't be purchased with credits, each seasonal Loot Box you receive is guaranteed to contain at least one item from our Summer Games 2016 collection. While any Summer Games item you unlock will be yours forever, the collection will be heading back into the vault on August 22 when the event concludes."
    https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/blog/20216482
August 2 - People exressed their negative feedback about Summer Loot Boxes.
    http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overw...ic/20747905428
August 3 - Jeff Kaplan wrote an answer to complaints. Key points was:
But sometimes we want things to feel rare and special.
We wanted to try something new with this event. As we mentioned in the Developer Update, we're learning and experimenting with this event.
we're seeing what works and what doesn't.
We'd like to give the event more time and see how people feel as it wraps up. Maybe people will be feeling differently at the end of the vent. Maybe not.
But I think letting the event play out for a few weeks is the right decision here.
    http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overw...age=7#post-134
August 4 - Original author of this topic pointed to phrase on Overwatch Advertising Page, where Blizzard promised, that credits can be used to acquire any specific cosmetics you want.
    http://i.imgur.com/AzZMAFM.png
Also, Summer Games loot boxes' reciept stated the same
    http://m.imgur.com/a/J4MiI
August 13 - Blizzard silently changed the loot description on the OW page. Now it states credits you can use to acquire many customization options
    http://imgur.com/a/ZTNSd
Now - We are waiting for a new responce from Jeff Kaplan about Summer Event after August 22. We believe he will tell, how event was accepted in general, what he thinks about Summer Loot Boxes problem, and what changes we might expect in the future. Current situation pretty much decribed in the post that summarizing grievances against Blizzard because of how their PR department has handled the situation (thanks HungryKarn):

I don't get this. Why would you even be upset about some cosmetics? I didn't pay anything and had been kinda lucky and have almost everything except sprays and a few voicelines but if I had gotten nothing, who cares?

I think it's about pointing out how Blizzard lied about using in game currency to be able to purchase future cosmetics. So people who stockpiled a bunch of coins for the next update found themselves out of luck. Kind of a really greedy move by Blizz.

There was no "lie". No promise was ever made that ALL future cosmetics would be available for currency on release. The statements people are linking do not say this; they exist within a context where you can't buy the pre-order or Origin Edition skins for currency, either. Clearly, some cosmetics won't be available for currency. That's been clear since well before release.

This is no different than, say, the Headless Horseman mount in WoW. You might not get it during the yearly event. And you can't buy it. You have to wait, and get lucky, and if you don't, try again next year.

The lie was mostly from this quote on the Blizzard site.

There is no "lie" there. You're misreading that statement.

If you go to a fast food joint, and they say "you can have any soft drink for $1", that doesn't mean you have a right to get upset that they don't have 1980s-era New Coke on tap for you. It's not on their menu, and that's what they were referring to.

In this case, the "menu" is the list of cosmetics available for currency. You couldn't use currency to buy Origins Edition skins, either.

oh please. It is still taken out of context and used to mince words. At the time they hadn't even come up with the idea of event cosmetics. They obviously meant general cosmetics and future permanent additions (new skins and all have been available for credits), not one's especially made for the new concept of temporary special events.

and like the image posted in the first post. the rules were modified. guess what, they get to do that when they have new ideas in play.

You've been around here long enough, Endus, that you should know that people are going to complete ignore your logical, common sense answer and just keep hating on Blizzard. They see the words in that picture and that's all they need to start another campaign of hate.

    It will never end.

Except if Blizzard makes items that aren't unlocked via currency. Like the golden guns in competitive seasons. The icons from playing your 10 competitive games. Those are all items in the game that can't be unlocked with currency. The same goes for limited time items from the Olympics.

And, as we've said before, this was true well before launch, with Widowmaker's pre-order skin and the Origins Edition skins, all of which aren't available for currency.

There has never been a time when you could buy all items that exist and will ever exist with in-game currency. If that's what you think Blizzard had said, you're just wrong.

I don't know how you inferred that I thought Blizzard said that. I posted additional examples of items that can't be purchased with the normal in game currency.

This whole thing has gone way too far. So incredibly blown out. Was not worth talking about to start with.
    I like sandwiches

  15. #15
This feels a lot like whining because people can't have the cosmetic option they want RIGHT NOW. Kind of feel like if they played the game instead of spending time on the forums complaining they'd probably have whatever they were looking for by now.

I get wanting to be able to use currency to buy during the event, but making it a crusade based on how things were worded just isn't the right way to go. Make it a game play issue, not a verbiage one.

A point is still being made, otherwise it wouldnt be the most conversed topic since the patch's release.

Just because I started this thread doesnt mean I'm agreeing to all of it. It's mainly about the silencing and how it would only create more tension to that portion of the community

  17. #17
it is forum policy for repetitive topics/threads to be removed if they already have a topic.

Judging from WoW alone, people like to explode over things but are a vocal minority. No point is actually being made in the fact of the facts and it being a conversed topic is irrelevant when they are wrong.

Items that cant be bought have always existed, have come in different forms and the event items should remain tied to the event. We have had new skins and items added to the core game that could be bought, as intended.

I don't even get the point of your whinery

I wonder how many of those people are also considered to be professional victims that need to be pissed about anything that ever happens.

To those who are saying the hundreds of players on the forums are whining: Tell me in a few sentences what exactly the controversy is, because I bet you guys don't even know the backstory.

You guys just saw the word cosmetics + free = whining.

And please dont differentiate the people of MMO-CHAMP with the official forums of Blizzard. There is no difference here
