    Lyme Disease Sucks

After several days of increasingly painful symptoms such as massive headaches, stiff joints, and a rash under my arm which kept growing I figured it was time to call 811 and see what they had to say. About 20 minutes in I got to the rash because I wasn't putting two and two together and she asked me to describe it and whether or not it was painful. I told her the rash was about the size of a grapefruit and had a ring at which point she basically told me to get it checked out 'within six hours' since she was under the impression that it could be Lyme.

So, I went to Outpatients and spent about 8 hours waiting to see a doctor. Once they stopped jerking each other off about how essential their services are I got taken in and, sure enough, doc took my symptoms down and took one look at the rash and told me I had the real deal. Drops a broad-spectrum anti-biotic slip in to my hand and I already feel the disappointment since this is about as much help as you're going to get in Canada when it comes to Lyme Disease which isn't exactly the best solution for the issue at hand. 14 day barrage at which point I'll have to talk to my family physician if the symptoms persist and work is like 'sorry but we can't find anyone to cover your shift so you have to come in an hour ago'.

    Buckle up!

Dont worry. Endus will run to this thread claiming how Canada is still great despite this.

What are the treatments for it exactly?

You're experience also sounds like a typical ER experience in the US. You go through triage and you're either admitted to the hospital because you condition warrants an extended stay or they hand your PCP, who then treats your or sends you to a specialist.

I feel for you. Lyme disease is still poorly understood and treatments are basically hit (really successful) or miss (do not work at all). Until they understand lyme disease more, unfortunately, that is how it will work. I agree with you on the situation with doctors though, the system sucks. We have it the same in the states. I guess that is what happens when you mix government and health. Seems there isn't a single thing on this planet that government can not make a total mess of, even helping sick people. It is amazing there is a person alive that still trusts them.

Oh get a grip, stop being melodramatic. As someone who actually has had two lyme disease infections, one of which spread into my spinal fluid, all it takes is anti-biotic treatment. It isn't hard, it isn't some kind of recovery story, it's literally ingesting some antibiotics.

Stop bitching, the disease is EASILY remedied and anything beyond said remedy is conspiracy level bullshit with the whole "chronic lyme disease" spiel.
