Work isn't a voluntary fun camp for self-actualisation: it can be hard and stressful but necessary to pay bills

Work is basically misery for the overwhelming majority of people. Telling woman "Oh just use the wizardry of technology and a fuck ton of money to put off what you want to do!" is advice only followable by the very affluent.

I mean I COULD afford to freeze my eggs, but I'm going the natural route, why? Because I don't want to be some geriatric trying to keep pace with a youngster. Plus I don't put much stock in careers' as a source of joy or fun. Hence I'm working on being a mom this time next year.

Telling affluent woman, or women in general "Oh just freeze your eggs!" is the ultimate "Let them eat cake!" response by the affluent elite within Feminism to the bread and butter concerns of most woman who work brutally hard just to stay afloat. And unlike the wealthier sisters, ACTUALLY HAVE TO WORK! It is not CAREERS that get in the way, its just trying to pay bills.

Then what can you know about how people who are not rich feel? Your life is not representative.

As someone who has been on pretty much all parts of the spectrum, let me tell you something: people adapt. People can be happy with many different lifestyles. What you, from your perspective of being rich, see as misery, the person themselves might see as quite a happy life. I know my income is low by American standards, but I'm genuinely happy with my life, I love my career and I go to the office every day with a smile. If you think I am some kind of an outlier, then read all kinds of surveys on that. And if you think that I am just faking being happy... Well, you are free to do so.

If people report themselves to be unhappy, that is their own reporting. I think we need to stop robbing people of the right to narrate their own lives and particularly their own emotions. I would argue you and May are simply misunderstanding (Either deliberately for ideological reason, or out of simple ignorance) peoples own narratives. Woman still do want kids, few of us actually work "Fulfilling careers," and shockingly enough most of us want to be moms but cannot reasonable afford to set down roots and actually have them.

More aptly, I would argue women who go this route are unfit to really be mothers, since motherhood is self-sacrifice and freezing your eggs so you can pursue a career and do some self-Actualizing money chasing reflects a person who is not exactly the self-Sacrificing type. Perhaps we should stop telling people they can have everything they want and they might actually have to make a choice in life? Since most of the female population cannot freeze our eggs, we might actually have to choose between earthly success and or procreation.

Saying "Oh Freeze your eggs," is both impractical since most woman cannot do that, but also begs the question, "Why?" I mean if you are not ready for motherhood in your 20's or early 30's, why will you be suddenly capable when you are 50 or 60? Especially as old age sets in? Will these wealthy career woman now also have to hire a surrogate mom? Essentially farming the actual labor of pregnancy to poorer woman who not only have to carry the child but then give it up to someone else?

Maybe you are living in some kind of especially depressed place then? Because I do not notice any real misery around me, people seem quite happy with their lives, and, again, surveys reflect that.

Yet you are somewhat doing the same. Women who feel they should freeze their eggs and focus on their careers have the right to do so. If you don't work a job you like, take steps to try and change it. I get that there are boundaries, I live with them too. Women who don't want kids at all and style for careers have the right to do that too.

I'll say again, the economy is shit certain places, I don't live in one of them, so I can't know all the facts, but I'm not at all well off either, but that doesn't mean it makes people unhappy all the time. There are lots, and lots of factors that determine happiness, satisfaction and contentness (I think that's the word), money and kids are just 2 of them.

We don't, and never will, have total freedom. It just isn't feasible. Motherhood is something you do because you want to, or rather, it bloody well should be. It's one of the most life-changing decisions ever. You do it because it makes you happy. That's a selfish action, but it's lauded for the better both because of culture, social values, etc etc. Unless you want to tell me that you want kids because you should have kids, in which case I'm thoroughly appaled.

And please, stop using mental disorders as insults to other people, it makes you look stupid. If you wanna call someone dumb, call them dumb.
