New to Rogue. Why do most Outlaw rogues have swords and what tells me that I should be using swords as opposed to daggers as a new rogue?
Thanks.

Exactly like Ench shaman, most of outlaw's skills scale with weapon swing timer: slower is the weapon higher is the damage.
You wouldnt without some research, although soon you will be forced to use the artefact weapons which are swords. Stuff like this is general knowledge among a player base that has been playing the game for over 10 years. I can remember back in Vanilla WOW when players would do things like this but it is rare to see now.
I've been playing since 2007 and I don't know. How the hell am I supposed to know which spells scale with what weapons better than others as someone that's never played the class? For a game as hand-holding as WoW you'd think something so crucial would be pointed out. 'Outlaw rogues use swords'
Now I need to buy new freaking heirlooms.
Have you never, in all those years, wondered why combat rogues always used non-daggers (at least in mainhand)?
Also: It will not really matter to a new player anyway; it is a DPS drop, but your skills still work with daggers and the damage ain't that bad either.
At the level where it will matter you will not get to choose anyway.

Well they dont just use swords, but its fairly obvious that the damage of your abilities would be calculated from the damage range of your weapons. So equipping weapons with a higher top end damage, generally slow axes, swords, fist weapons would be better than a fast dagger with a lower top end. The DPS of the weapon may be the same, but when you are using instant cast abilities the swing time is irrelevant, its always instant, so you would want a higher max damage weapon to apply the ability.
Well it's the one spec that isn't bound to use of daggers; so that might have been a bit of a pointer.

the specialisation description preety much describes them as swashbucklers; which points into direction of cutlasses (1h swords) and guns.
Most spells of most physical dps specs have scaled with weapon damage over time. I think only WW monks (maybe also druids) don't anymore.
Have you tried reading and understanding the ingame tooltips of abilities and items?
This is no sarcastic question.
While we are on topic. How is using a dagger in offhand for outlaw now in pre-patch opposed to slow 1hander ? I havce a 705 sword and a 725 dagger. In theory you whould get more energy back with a faster offhand right ?
for someone who has played this long you would think you would be a bit smarter on how to learn about a class. The abilities havent really mentioned weapon speed and weapon damage in a long time, if ever. They give you a flat damage number. now to understand how these abilities get that number they made several websites years ago called Wowhead and Icy-veins...plus tons of others, actually you are on a fairly decent one now that pins these awesome posts called guides that talk you through the class step by step. It is here where you will find the breakdown of the math on each ability by searching it, or you can go to icy veins and just read from the pros about the specs for every class.
Outlaw rogues mastry damage is based on wepon damage so slowerisbetter. Combat potency got normalized so that slower weapons have a higher chance to procc, so slower in off-hand is better in any aspect.
30*(OHSpeed/1.4)
So a 1.4 werapon have 30% chance to give energy and a 2.8 weapon has 60%
I think the OP is rightly pointing out that the game never tells you that outlaw uses 2 slow weapons. And it doesn't. End of story. Aside from all the smart ass comments from toxic people, the game does not tell you this. Which is a bit odd.

People are essentially insulting the OP for not knowing that outlaw uses slow weapons. Yeah that's pretty sad.

If you even bothered to look at the tooltips of your abilities you wouldn't feel the need to come here and ask such a basic question.
well simply by trying it
you equip a slower weapon and the damage on your saber slash increases (even in the tooltip)
and since slow weapons naturally have more damage on them (since they're the same dps but slower) and none of your skills require daggers you can draw the right conclusions
plus the main ability is called SABER slash, sabers are swords :P
Can I ask what makes you think you need to use swords or daggers? I just want to understand your reasoning because they can use daggers, one-handed swords, one-handed maces, one-handed axes and fist plus bows and crossbows, but you only asked about daggers and swords. Do you have some preconceived idea what rogues should use?
Because honestly I don't think there are many classes that explicitly say what to use, they just tell you what you can't use.
