Time to build or buy a new system - advice wanted.

I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while now, just waiting for the day when it was my turn to make a thread, well that time has finally come.

I've been using an iMac for school/gaming (for what i can) for the past 4.5 years, but am now looking to get back into the PC market.

I'm not sure I have the time or desire to build my own, but I can get a local shop to put one together and test it, and was wondering if this would work.

I mostly play Blizzard games, as those run on Mac's decently, but would definitely branch out into some other games with a capable system.

This is what I can have built -

    CPU INTEL® CORE™ I5-6600K 3.50GHZ 6M Cache FC-LGA14C LGA1151 Processor Retail Package Skylake 1 $399.98
    CPU Heatsinks Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 1366/1150/1155/1156/2011 1 $46.98
    Motherboards ASUS Z170-A NCIX PC 1 $224.98
    RAM Corsair Vengeance Lpx 8GB 2X4GB DDR4-2400 C14 1.2V Memory 1 $64.53
Video Cards ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 OC ROG Strix 1847/1873 MHz 6GB GDDR5 1 $458.99
Computer Cases Corsair Carbide Series 230T Black Gaming Case ATX 3X5.25 4X3.5 Front USB3.0 Audio 1 $97.68
Power Supplies Corsair CX Series CX750M 750W ATX 12V 80 Plus Bronze Modular Power Supply 1 $134.98
Operating Systems Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64BIT English DVD 1 $118.60
Hybrid Hard Drives Seagate Firecuda 1TB SSHD SATA 6GB/S 64MB Cache 3.5in Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive for NCIX PC 1 $103.99
CD & DVD Drives ASUS DRW-24F1ST 24X SATA DVD Writer Black 1 $23.62
    Total $1674.33

I'm in Canada, so that makes a bit of a difference on the pricing and shipping of the items. I can order from the US, but most places I'll have to cover the customs fees when the item gets here, so it doesn't make much sense.

These items were from the choices the builder uses. Looking more so for opinions on how this would perform.

I have priced out items as suggested on the Monthly Builds from here, but they generally end up running around this much, and like I said, I'm not sure about the time availability for me to do this myself (just starting a teaching practicum, and I want to enjoy my free time, not worry about putting the system together and trouble shooting it).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well I looked through your build it looks pretty solid, I would recommend finding a better powersupply I've heard mixed things about the CX 750M. It's what I personally use but I was uneducated when I bought it. I haven't had any issues. Just i've had people tell me that some people had issues. And you put in a "K" series CPU which means you'll want to overclock to get the biggest bang for your buck. Honestly you probably don't need to worry about it but it's still good to do. If you plan to overclock I would invest in a better CPU Cooler. But again overclocking isn't something you really need to worry about right this second. The 6600k factory clocked will serve you just fine.

There's a johnnyguru review of the CX750M if you'd like to look it up.

GTX 1070 to GTX 1060 price difference is very small, I suggest getting a 1070. This build is cheaper, so if you're willing to spend more get a better SSD (Crucial MX200 or Samsung 850 EVO).

When I opened those links, they took me to the US Newegg site, the Canadian site prices were higher (but not as high as what I had listed.)

I'm a bit concerned about buying anything from Kinguin, from what I can see they don't have a great reputation. So, if you factor that in, the price isn't much different, and then there is the time to put the system together and trouble shoot etc., which I'm not sure I have at the moment.

    A couple of quesitons:

Is there a big benefit to getting the 1070 vs the 1060?

Do I need the 6600K or will a 6600 be fine if I will likely never OC? And if I don't OC, is the Z170 still the mobo I should go with?

You dont have to factor anything in if you get buyers protection. You get a defective key (that happens sometimes because they cannot guarantee where they get it) they give you another one. No troubleshooting required. The hardest part of making your own build is getting all the parts selected which we do here for you anyway. Putting it together is two hours time max. You also get higher quality of components (the build that can be put out using only one store is usually vastly inferior to what you can put out using all stores available) and lower price.

    Questions:
    1) Yes. It's a very good deal from what I can see.
    2) You absolutely should OC, especially if you play WoW. If you absolutely refuse to (which is kind of stupid) then i5-6600 will be fine (still lower clock even in stock) and you dont need Z170 mobo.

It will only increase your system speed if you are running out of RAM and having to use Page File. With 4GB RAM, yeah, you'll have issues. However, 8GB is still more than enough for just about everything out there unless you are doing some severe multitasking. 16GB is reasonably priced though, so kinda the sweet spot, even though it is technically overkill. 32GB is just extreme overkill to the max.

Creating a gaming world takes alot? Funny, I have 8GB in my system and monitor it while gaming, it's more than enough. I stand by wha I said, of course you noticed a difference because you only had 4GB before. 8GB is still more than enough, really like 6GB is probably enough. Anything beyond enough is wasted though. I know you want to justify the purchase to yourself, but really, 32GB is massive overkill. 16GB is the standard overkill new systems should shoot for. Seriously, take some RAM out of your system and just leave 8GB in. You'll notice no difference unless you have like 100 tabs in a browser open while gaming.
