    How is leveling as prot?

So, in WoD, I played a monk. I leveled as BrM and it was far more efficient than WW. My damage ST was lower, but AoE was incredibly strong. I would gather about 8-10 mobs and just keg smash them down.

In Legion, I'll play a DPS spec mainly, but early on I'll be using prot to queue faster and spam dungeons. Since my gear is pretty bad I wonder if it's smarter to just be a tank for early leveling and the first Suramar scenario runs.

Could prot potentially be a better leveling choice than arms or fury?

It is great, pull everything you can see, pop cds, pop nelfarion's, watch all mobs die. Turn in quest. Repeat.

I will be maining fury once we start raiding, but I fully intend to level as prot and get my first golden dragon before I even touch my fury gear.

Is it ok to save all ap to spend on one of the dps specs while leveling as prot? I mean, do i need to spend some ap to make leveling as prot easy?

Nice. Any advice on a spec? I wouldn't even know where to start, although Ravager seems like a slam dunk.

I leveled 1-100 with a prot warrior, very easy never died. Also great for dungeon spamming since you get a almost insta-que. There was a thread on here somewhere by Ask Mrrobot showing how you could effectively level 2 specs at once, i'll try and find it.

as far as saving AP, I would strongly recommend going for your first gold dragon and then banking everything for your dps, and keep your tank at about 80% of your main spec. You lose very little in doing this (I think it adds like 2 days to your total time needed to max out your main weapon.)

I don't know why you would do that. Fury has insane burst AOE and it cleaves down packs of mobs like they aren't even there.
Not saying prot won't work but it's not at all as fast.

Aye, I plan on being a pretty active tank this expansion. MoP tanking was a blast for me and while I prefer to DPS I must say tanking is very satisfying too.

Aggro, there are certainly advantages to tank leveling, or at least there have been in the past (as I described with my BrM example). You can handle more mobs with less downtime, and since our artifact gives a very potent AoE ability it seems like prot may be very viable. Alas, I'm not on the Beta so I rely on information from other sources. Would you say that fury can keep moving with its cleave, not needing eating breaks between? The sustain seems really lacking.

They did a whole blog post about it. http://blog.askmrrobot.com/2016/08/a...t-path-legion/

I've been wondering whether to level as prot or not as well. I will main arms 100% but surely nothing wrong with me going prot for leveling?

I'm starting to get really confused by the whole dual spec AP saving business. It's probably really simple, but I want to make sure I don't gimp myself.

    - I want to main Arms as I like to DPS and it looks great this xpac
    - We have 2 MT's otherwise I would tank but I want to keep my Prot spec ready to go at least for dungeons and possibly for raids
    - I figure my levelling will be more beneficial if I choose Prot; survivability plus helping guildies out with dungeons

So riddle me this: come tomorrow do I go like this:
    - Prot and get the Prot artifact weapon to start with
    - Level as Prot and spend points as Prot
    - Do the quest or whatever at 105? and get the Arms weapon

    So confused!

Prot has no CD on Heroic Throw so from 100 to 102 you can just tag mobs in overpopulated zones. Once you're ahead of the curve you can then go arms or fury either one works, fury is better for in combat sustain while arms bursts down mobs harder. (Arms is also the dps spec for raids atm)

IMO it's important to play something that won't burn you out quickly, Prot might be good for target picking but it's rather slow damage compared to the other two specs. I'm going prot for the first 2 levels simply because of overpopulated zones, then I'll go Arms for 103-110.

You get your first Artifact Weapon at 100 (basically first thing you do) and then at 102 you can get the other 2 (3 if you're a druid) Artifact Weapons.
If you're going to do mythic 5 mans as a tank then you need at least 1 gold dragon but since mythic + doesn't open until the same week as raids you can delay spending points to your offspec.

Most important thing BY FAR is to have your loot specialisation set to whatever you're going to raid as, Legendary items drop based on your loot specialisation. If your setting is "auto to current spec" then you might get prot or fury Legendary items and not Arms or whatever you want.

Thanks for the heads up about the loot spec. So if I have this right I think I'll be going Prot and picking up the Prot weapons, then get the Arms one at 102. I'll save my AP and spend them all on my DPS weapon I believe?

The idea is that zones should not get "overpopulated" anymore. Once there are enough people in a zone phasing will makes sure you end up in another identical zone with less people. Not sure how well this will work at launch though.

The tanking specs work however. I leveled my DK as blood and it was really nice but I'd still pick a DPS if I wanted to do it as fast as possible.

    That's what I'm doing.
On beta I found the Prot Artifact hard to do at higher levels because I didn't have a shield so I couldn't go prot to defend myself in the scenario, spent over an hour trying to kite around the end Prot boss... So I'm doing the Prot artifact first so I can just avoid any issues like that. Also Prot Warrior is among the best specs to solo things with anyways next to DH and DK tanks, you should do the Nightfallen Scenario as tank btw- makes it a cakewalk.

There's going to be somewhat of a wave at the start regardless, however Stormheim starts with a Scenario so most likely you won't notice server issues at the start.

Oh no. I have no doubts that there will be server issues. Just becuase we're not all in the same phase, doesn't mean we're not on the same server.
So you might not see all thoes people you did in WoD but the servers will no doubt lag and crash like they always do.

Come at me release! I'm ready for you!
