Like many said, I think it was just a case of a legend becoming more legendary over time. Like that fish you heard about in the lake, some geezer tells you its at least 100lb, he knows this because some geezer years ago said it was massive. Its amazing how stories grow.

It was a constant series of cliffs above cliffs above other cliffs. One of the worst questing experiences I had since Vashj'ir.
The easternmost fly path in Highmountain has lower altitude than anything else in the zone and that was rather unexpected. And when I died from fall in Stormheim I either ended on the ground or rivers (shallow water FTW). In Highmountain I died in the middle and had to run around. Which also led me to discovery that Blizzard changed things and when your corpse is on higher location than you you can't ress even if you're in the acceptable range. Oh, and the cave with the bungee jump - worst treasure ever. I thought it was at the bottom with the spiders. Reaching it was eventful, so were the adventures with spiders and finding a way out. Rather strong elite spiders. Then the mountain above. Nope, some small path to the left of after you cross the bridge in the cave.

Well, the whole thing was supposed to be secretive. Though they could have delivered it better with us learning some tidbits now and then. They did give us some, but merely slivers and the biggest reveal was in Azsuna. So if you did it after Stormheim like I did it was kinda a bit too late.

Atrocious design. That thing should be a solo scenario like Huln quest, but not only isn't solo, it's fucking CRZ for some reason. So yay for having people outside of your own realm group competing with you for quest objectives in a tiny area in a leveling zone at the start of expansion.

Even better, that very queen doesn't give a fuck when you summon her before Eyir's vault after you butchered your way to her altar by washing your hands in her Shieldmaidens' blood. Or the fact that you were supposed to "meet your destiny" in there (Ashildir's own words) yet somehow ignoring that we planned to bring a Banshee with us who struck a deal with freaking Helya to enslave Eyir.
Vrykul culture is full of wonders. To think of it, the Vrykul of Jotunheim weren't that different. Letting you be because you outchampioned them and the like. Hell, an undead Val'kyr at the arena was worried about us. And in the dungeon (not sure if it happens before or after Skold-Ashil because the questline branches out into the conclusion of the trials and Sylvanas' part at the same moment with the ability to do either one first) Eyir doesn't give a shit about us killing her chosen (not friendly towards us at the start by the way) and Odyn doesn't give a shit about us killing everything we can.

Furthermore, you feel quite a huge gap between entering Eyir's vault and the cinematic, everything feels quite rushed and you barely have any idea of what went on until you don't read the freaking quest reward at the very end and see what this damn "Soulcage" was and why Sylvanas possessed it.
Yeah, the cinematic popped up in a weird spot. Technically, for me it disconnected me and I appeared back at Nathanos' camp with quest complete. WoWPedia article mentions the objective of killing some Val'kyr, but the WoWHead page for that same Val'kyr has [do not spawn] tag so I guess Blizzard either cut the quest which resulted in bullshit or didn't finish it and released incomplete product, which resulted in different flavor of bullshit.

Well, accidents on such bridges can happen. As I said, a shame we couldn't help make it happen.

Saw that happen once. A nice nod actually. Also saw an Illidari in their main camp in Azsuna comment on UH DK wielding a Legion weapon against them. Wonder if there are such elements for other Artifacts. The logical thing would be for the same Illidari to make similar comment towards my Aff Warlock (or any Warlock for that matter) since I'm wielding a weapon that was gifted to Sataiel (no clue why they felt the need to change her name from Satiel, Satiel sounds better and is still on the Artifact preview page on WoW site) by Sargeras himself. Alas Warlocks are unwanted children in the eye of Blizzard and I got no such remark.

So much this...was actually really annoying because it took quite a while for me to get credit for killing enough demons because everyone else was killing them so fast. Very immersion breaking. Still thought the quest was hilarious though.

I mean if you've done the Highmountain quests it explains why those tribes have antlers. (Just a thought).
I read every quest in Highmountain (that I did, I may have missed some) and don't remember seeing mention of antlers. I may have missed it, did a lot of quests in one day and CBA to remember everything and if it's like a one liner thing in one quest I'm sure it's easily missed.

It's almost like the story was embellished over time.
Sylvanas didn't even win the popular vote, she was elected by an indirect election of representatives. #NotMyWarchief

It's the same quest as the one you talked about in the first paragraph actually.

Its exactly this. That is the intention and answer to your question. Its a thousand year old story, it should be obvious this was the case, no? There is no way one person can carve through that many demons. If that was possible, there never would have been a threat in the first place!

Didn't seem that bad. I kinda enjoyed it. Besides even if you can kill hundreds of demons or thousands, War of the Ancients was a massive war so thousand kills probably wasn't a tide turning thing.

You guys are so butthurt.I don't see why we can't have a character of legendary reputation anymore. Also that "he gets blessed by cenarius" was story rushed because they didnt spend much time on scenarios and you shouldn't complain about it...like ever!

We haven't seen a badass tauren since Cairne they want to bring some kind of balance in badass characters I guess.
Maybe ebonhorn exaggerated a bit but if he defeated Tich and banished Deathwing hey its fine by me Im not complaining.
I found it fun to do quest and lore was on point even if Ebonhorn exaggerated.

One of the most fun quests in revamped cata, were the day deathwing arrived quests, where three guys, an orc, dwarf and gnome, tell wildly over exaggerated stories of how they beat up deathwing. It's completely fictitious but it's hilariously fun for that reason, so stop bitching about some quests being OTT

Ebonhorn is forever thankful of that dude and has been around the Highmountain tauren for ages, and you're a foreigner that knows nothing of their hero. Of course he's gonna blow things up a bit when telling a legend. At least that's the way I understood the quest - "a great hero from another land comes and we need to make our hero look even greater."
The fact that you're later shown that it was indeed embelished makes it an even funnier quest, and makes me wanna hug Ebonhorn for trying so hard to make his people (I mean the Highmountain Tauren) look good.

While I agree it sounded way too much like Lorewalker Cho... The guy voices Pooh bear aswell as that one Nightfallen in Azsuna he probably could've did something different other then Cho with a different accent

It even had more of Huln's & Jared Shadowsongs relationship, I've been waiting for more of that since Cataclysm, it's a pitty he's dead.

Was 10 years ago and he was a high mountain tauren. The story was probably either lost among the mainland tribes or never picked up in the first place. I loved huln. I thought I would hate high mountain going into Legion but it was easily my favorite zone. Except escorting granny...

I think Kayn (?) in the Azshuna camp says "nice weapon you got there, bro" to you when you approach him, not sure if it was specific to my scythe, or just generic stuff he says for every artifact wielder (=everyone). I was hoping for some dialogue with the fem DH NPC who has the soul-stealing scythe. Like, we could be soul stealing scythe besties. Sadly, nope. Maybe she's jelous and secretly hates us for out-scything her ;]

People often unjustly complain about "mary sue" characters, but this guy seriously could not be more of a mary sue if he tried. This is the first time I have ever disliked a questline in Wow, or found a character so awful.

This was just some random Tauren from a primitive tribe who somehow knows all about the Titans and how their technology works. He gets "blessed" by Cenarius for petting a magic moose, saves Malfurion by wiping out an entire batallion of demons and then single-handedly kills Tichondrius as well. If that weren't enough he then goes and beats the shit out of Deathwing and personally banishes him to Deepholm, and just happened to cure a black dragon of corruption at the same time.

None of it made any sense - there's no way he could have known about the Titans back then, let alone recognized a waygate... and how did he know how to use the Hammer of Khaz'Goroth, or even what it was? And no mortal could have just bitch-slapped one of the most powerful demons in the universe like that.

Every step of the quest had me rolling my eyes so much it hurt.

    Am I alone in this?
I have a feeling that some of it has to do with general story telling and development of a story loving people. Stories develop after all.

I finally got around to doing this quest (yes, I am slow -- I hit 110 some days ago, right as I began questing in Highmountain, and I have been juggling Suramar questing, class questing, and Highmountain questing ever since) and I thought it was hysterically funny! I interpreted it as the story that Spiritwalker Ebonhorn tells to all the tribesmen -- and visitors -- that come. It's just a really good campfire story with the great and revered ancestor as the marvelous hero -- just as most of you have been saying.

What made it even more funny was the efforts of some of the voice actors, and I must single out Malfurion's here. I love that guy. He normally plays Mal as very strong and confident, but he has a few bag of subtle tricks, like here when Huln runs up, he has this undertone of true astonishment, like "*GASP* I am SO amazed at your astounding feats! And Cenarius took time out from his busy schedule to give you his blessing! Truly you must be the most supertauren supertauren that ever supertaurened!"

What made it even more apparent that it is mostly a tall tale is the quest line just afterward, when you accompany Ebonhorn and Mayla into Neltharion's old cave, and Ebonhorn tells us the story of Huln, the freeing of the enslaved drogbar, and how he -- Ebonhorn -- came to be part of the tribe. Ebonhorn plays this one straight and you get to see memories of the actual Huln.

TL: DR; I disagree with the OP, for reasons outlined in the above text.

I feel the same, it felt as an exagerated story, but isn't that's normal? most stories are "modified" in favor of the "winner"
