I don't really mind. If anything I'd love for Bethesda to start designing games without mods in mind - so that they're as polished and as in-depth as the likes of The Witcher 3. Furthermore the vast majority of mods are...rather dubious and inappropriate for casual browsing. Nudity and sex mods, for instance, are widely available for PC players and I can totally understand why Sony wouldn't want to be associated with such things.

Wasnt that more xbox? With xbox dragging ass on doing crossplatform play and grilling indy games patchs before letting them be published?

No, Microsoft was the fees needed to update and publish. They long since removed that requirement though. Cross platform play they are still somewhat dragging ass sadly. The only reason why FFXIV still isn't on Xbone is cause MS wants a functionality to play with only other Xbox players, which isn't happening according to Yoship.

It was way back in the early to mid 360 days when MS wanted outrageous licensing fees from indy devs to both make games and patch them.

Yup it was years ago. I don't know if Microsoft still has the 'unique' policy in which if it gets an indie game it has to have something special to make it different than other platforms.

    Sounds suspect to me.

Many company develop for the PS consoles, many have been able to get a lot of life out of anyone one of the console. Bethesda has repeatedly stumbled when it comes to developing for the PS consoles. As in they've had instances where their games were unplayable. And its not like they put out the most stable hardware in the first place. I love Bethesda games, Fallout is my favorite franchise after Mass Effect, but their games are so buggy to the point that other studios couldn't survive the bad press if they put out the same buggy software as Bethesda.

Sony has been known to block a lot of stuff in the name of "certification" in the past, but the issue with Fallout 4 seems like Bethesda just can't get the mods to run smoothly on the PS4. Don't mind me, I'm still salty about how bad Skyrim ran on the PS3.

Ah yes, the 8MB(?) save file bug + memory leak and the fix introduced laggy water.

After the "40 pounds of realistic horse pussy and ass" style mods for skyrim i imagine they are trying to avoid a headache. God knows 9 times out of 10 i see people making a mod for a bethesda game its a porn one. Lego online was infamous for fighting a losing battle against stopping players making giant lego dicks -because if you give people a blank slate they will draw a dick on it- and that ended up being such a resource hog it was in part responsible for tanking the game.
It only takes one screaming parent saying "my tween son downloaded sex mods for skyrim on his ps4!" and we are right back to the days of "are your children using 'wireless internet' at their schools to download smut onto their devil made playstation pornables OUT OF THIN AIR?!" and Sony has been down that road before. Its easier to just avoid potential problems like that altogether by simply not allowing them.

-or they are just paranoid of a backdoor entry into ps4 piracy or something.

Porn mods do not work without the xxSE, which is not available on consoles.

    Skyrim is a 18+ game on PS3.

When it comes to stuff like this they remind me of Nintendo.
Nintendo has never had games that allowed mods on the level that Fallout 4 and Skyrim do, comparing the two is outright stupid. Nintendo is dumb for entirely different reasons than Sony is. Sony are being retarded by alienating developers like this, but I don't feel like game mods are the be all end all of gaming.

Wasn't trying to sound like Nintendo did allow mods. My point was just like Nintendo, Sony is being stubborn with allowing anyone to do anything. They both want to live in there bubble.

If they ever find a way to monetize mods with ads, that business choice will hit them hard in the face.

Imagine mod authors having to publish through CERT or a CERT equivalent, or hell, Bethesda having to push batches of mods through CERT themselves. No one here really believed that Sony would be pleased with half of the smut, shite and adult garbage on the Nexus, right?

This never had a prayer of launching. If Valve couldn't pull this off with regulation, I doubt SonyxBethesda could even get a plan together. Which seems to be exactly what happened.

this is why i always thought it was weird that the console games would have mods. But then i thought it would work if it did the same sort of thing that sc2 had to do for custom games.
