It's obvious that the trigger is time-gated behind things we don't have access to yet. Several other classes can't start their chain until Exalted with a certain reputation or having unlocked a certain class hall feature, for example.

As for the Corrupted Ashbringer, until a paladin actually has it, don't believe that nonsense on the front page. It's not "proof" that the chain can start in old world content, because nobody has it yet. Things can and clearly have changed since beta. There's many remnants of scrapped and unimplemented features in both the database and the live game itself. Be optimistic but skeptical, always!

Finished Thunderfury the first week of Legion Launch. Wasn't anything suspicious at all and they wouldn't do that considering you can only do it once. After reading the Ashbringer hunt forum and seeing that it does indeed actually involve old content then I started to brain storm more.

The best I can think of is to talk to the NPC that you were sent to from the Silithus NPC. The Silithus NPC tells you to check out Earthcaller Franzahl who then would tell you that you need to find Krixxix in BWL. The NPC was originally in Winterspring but they moved to Mount Hyjal but as it's Mount Hyjal it's heavily phased for my rogue. Maybe other rogues can check? I'd assume you won't be able to see the NPC if you finished Mount Hyjal as my druid was able to find the NPC just fine. Another idea was that I had to bring an Enchanted Elementium to the NPC. Again, I can't check because it's heavily phased on my rogue. http://www.wowhead.com/npc=14348/earthcaller-franzahl

Then how is there a level 21 AK paladin on the PTR? Seems like they left beta characters on there, or is there some kind of NPC that gives you certain levels of AK on PTR?

    cleared MC, nothing
cleared BWL, bribed the goblin, died very quickly to drakes, didn't see any new abilities for him though
went to thunderaan spawning point in silithus, nothing at NPC or around the area

Beta is still up and I have 25 ak on beta from the char I used there. But I have no idea what to look for a trigger.

Thought so, this guy has no clue what he's talking about. Let us know! Maybe try around azsuna, maybe you need a certain level of AK to trigger Lord Hal'Sharas tomb?

I'd suggest looking for clues in the actual artifact history in the class halls too

WoWhead has all the Artifact Research text up: http://www.wowhead.com/guides/artifa...fact-book-text

It mentions the Dreadblades were forged by the eredar, Talgath, for which there is an NPC in the database: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=102294/talgath
Curiously there's location data for him, but nothing's there. Obviously I assume him to be summoned at some point, possibly once we've completed the Research in game, or have more Artifact Power/weapon maxed out. This quote seems to point toward such a requirement: "Admiral Goreblade finally discovered the true power behind her weapons. Talgath revealed himself and told her that she had only tasted a meaningless drop of the Burning Legion's strength."

There are several mentions of Talgath's possible return as well, but again, this seems gated by time as we wait to finish researching and empowering our Blades. How this ties to Thunderfury, I dunno, but its very intriguing.

It's worth noting that the Corrupted Ashbringer skin is a reference to an old tin-foil hat theory from long ago. Can anyone remember and link to an old conspiracy theory to the original Thunderfury item before it was found out how to obtain it? If so, it gives another possible lead to check out. Blizzard may not employ the same strat twice, but it's worth checking out
    Edit: autocorrect correction.

I can only see him on my druid right now and my druid did NOT finish Hyjal. My rogue completed Hyjal and did a lot of the Firelands Daily area but cannot see him.

Actually the "real trigger" for paladin hidden scin is Sister Elda. You need to farm some old world resources before talking to her, but none of this items start quest chain - it starts from broken isles, not old world.

Yeah, but making old world requirement for the trigger to happen makes pretty much old world relevant in our search. This vastly expands where we have to look

My money is on the Defiant Legacy option - we're the only class that has the option on that tier for our troops to bring back an "item of value" (every other class is the boss counter bonus only) and we already know that Demon Hunters need to take a specific Class Order Advancement to get their Vengeance appearance, so it's something they're willing to gate behind those choices.

I'm thinking this as well. Items 139453 through 139483 in WoWHead are all mission rewards, and that range includes the two bindings.

Yesterday a guildmate rogue got the sub skin and the achievement, i got a half heart attack because the achievement didnt say wihch skin and spec it was. But than he told me it wasnt outlaw, it was sub skin...

So if the Paladin Skin is a homage for the old asbringer questline, maybe we have the same homage like the old thunderfury... but wait old thunderfury is still ingame... Ragnaros was the first elemental lord how tried to bind thunderaans power. Now someone tried the same now (the bindings say this with the yellow text) so who could it be? Who want the power of thunderaan?

If the world know that the shaman raise thunderaan and made him the new Windlord, someone is upset about it, someone want the power and didnt finished the job by now or the job failed already.

Who could profit from the power of Thnuderaan the Windlord?

The Ret skin (Corrupted Ashbringer) has been found on the beta. The NPC does not have the prompt until somewhere between 10 and 16 Artifact Knowledge (the 5 day work orders that increase Artifact Power gain). Thunderfury and all of the other appearances that no one has any clue how to get are probably the same.

You need to find the bindings and then threaten/bribe Thunderaan with them. You start with one binding first, then request an audience, then get another one, then meet with him.
There is some viewable data on WoWDB for this now, so guys can stop questioning it.

(Ignore the map for the quest there, that's just showing locations for Infernal Brimstone.)
