Ouch, unexpected. Especially with Overwatch being so young. And his apparent love for this new universe.

I wish him all the best. He did an amazing job at blizzard (that doesn't mean perfect, for the haters) adn still hope he will stick around to give some advices or small prep (like voicing Thrall).

Im genuinely confused as to why people feel the need to disrespect Jesus by wanting Thrall to die for being like Jesus. Is it the cool thing to say nowadays?

Good luck for the future Chris :-)

I heard this last night and my 1st reply was "WHO WILL VOICE ALL THE ORCS NOW???"

but in all honestly im kind of sad, sure thrall isnt as loved but i really enjoyed chris in the community and he was always a blast to see at blizzcon.
I wish him the best tho in his life and I hope both wow and overwatch stay strong

    Good luck Chris

I hope he finds time to do some creative work at some point in his retirement

Now the real question at the moment is, is this in somewhat related to the bonfire studio.
He clearly states he's not going to work for them, but the underlying reason of its founding could have some relation.

Just wow. An era in gaming has truly passed. I will miss him for sure, even if everything had his voice.

He will still do the voice I am imagining. If not I can do it.

Oh Metzen . . . farewell space traveler. Today, Azeroth's heart skips a beat, but it is still going - living and breathing. All of us will miss you dearly, and all of us must except that nothing lasts forever. Its been a long, strange, but awesome trip and I thank you for the countless memories and joys that you have brought to my consciousness. Love has called for you, follow your own heart and make your family proud. We will forever miss you buddy.

    Thank you for your service.

Honestly long overdue. The game he made and the IP of WC was amazing. He did such a good job. But it seems like GC and him had really lost site of what made the game great. They just kept doing things that took away from the community. This probably means that those who loved what the game was 10 years ago can forget about the possibility of WoW ever returning to what made them like the game.

Unless maybe J Allen Brack is fired or leaves. Bring back Grummz and Legacy servers. We need them now more than ever.

This is unfortunate! from all the people at Blizzard I never thought this guy will ever leave, it's a sad day indeed.

I wish him all the best and hopefully, somehow he will stay around.
Not really, Ion is the head of the "you will play it the way I say and that is the only way to have fun way" group and a horrid PR man, so yah, I would rather Metzen stay and Ion leave.

People like you are the reasons as to why I still live.

He did some really good work the first 10 or so years. Warcraft 1-3 and Starcraft 1 were amazing. I don't know what happened that led to the terrible quality of writing in every single Blizzard game since WC3. You can't put all the blame on him, but as the main story guy he will have to carry most of that responsibility. I'm glad he's leaving, not just in the kinda mean "maybe Blizzard can finally produce a good original story that's not a rehash of all their other stories" but because he'll get to retire early and spend lots of time with his family. He seems like a really cool guy and I wish him the best.

On a side note I do wonder if they're gonna kill off all the characters he voiced.

Please. TFA was a return to the glory days of Star Wars. You must be one of those people who LIKED the special editions and prequels... Or you have never seen the original films.

Fallout from Titan or maybe a structural change at blizzard?

TBH I would love nothing more than the core group of original developers to all leave and start a new project based on their core fundamentals that start Blizzard...

    Well one can hope lol

    -thrall: retired (the irony)
    -nefarian: dead
    -ragnaros: dead
    -hakkar: somewhere doing something
    -saurfangs son: dead
    -zul'jin: dead
    -bronjahm: dead
    -Arcanital Mara'kah: dead
    -captain Halu'kal:dead
    -War-God Jalak:dead
    -Nalak:dead
    -kazzak: dead (again atm)

no idea about the starcraft characters tho. (but since starcraft is basically done anyways.)

Metzen has been mediocre the last 10 years. Blizzard can do better.
