They went the way of thottttttttbotttttt.
"I'm not stuck in the trench, I'm maintaining my rating."
Context: C'thun was unbeatable with the current gear available to players at the time and the bugs that existed. This was backed up mathematically by Ion from EJ.
After that Blizzard implemented a number of hotfixes and some alterations to phase 2 in order to make it so people could actually beat the boss. Only once these changes were in place did the first kills start rolling in.
Didn't the forum get bought out by someone who tried to monetize it and that is mainly why it all went to hell ?
what happened to them? well, the game has apparently less number crunching so that means theres less need for theorycrafting. Also, ppl tend to move on with their lives from time to time. For instance Ion Hazzikostas went from EJ guild leader to WoWs next ghostcrawler (i think). Oh well there also that thing with overmoderated forums where semantics could get you banned (specially important for non native english speakers).
Well ion is now fucking up the game at blizzard instead of just playing it. That's one of the bigger reasons.
Yes but they don't dont do the grunt work of programming. That is why a lot of programmers get paid slightly above minimum wage it is the grunt work. They are the first people replaced as soon as they start to make some money with fresh new programmers it happens industry wide.
I agree that EJ's policy on infracting people for not capitalizing the right words, not leaving a space after the punctuation, misspelling certain words was wayy over-the-top but boy did those guys really deliver on theory-crafting. Haven't heard about icy-veins though, i'll give them a look.
Ion's the lead encounter designer, right?
Last I heard, raid encounters were the one thing that WASN'T lacking in WoD. At least that seemed to the be the popular opinion DURING WoD. I only watched the raiding scene last expansion, I don't really have first hand experience.
