The article in the OP did point one important thing out..."Socialist inspired"... What it really was instead was a populist movement disguised itself in "Socialism".
A bunch of mobsters, populists, and military officials took over a country and then redistributed it to themselves and then proceeded to run everything into the ground appointing their cousins and political friends and sycophants into positions of management and administration, who then in turn lined their pockets while having no idea what the fuck they were doing.
You could do all this while you had a near endless supply of cash despite your incompetence, but those times are over.
I'm not a socialist per say, but let's call what happened in Venezuela what it is. A stereotypical Latin American populist strongman shitshow.
