Are DDOS attacks something we'll just have to get used to?

I find it hard to believe that there's literally no way to find the source or stop a DDOS attack. Blizzard doesn't seem to be making any effort to change what they're doing since it has become an every day occurrence.

Trust me mate the ddos attacks arnt easy to stop . it takes aloot of recources and other thigns to eaven try to. and to stop it compleatly they need to cut all connections to the servers down. and well that will make no 1 able to play wow or any other blizzard games.

You can't completely stop DDoS attacks in 1 week.

Now, if it's 4+ months later and we're still getting them, yes, then you can complain that Blizz isn't doing anything.

    There's no singular source.

It's just a marketing gimmick, this way they don't have to announce a subscriber count, this just gets interpreted by mainstream media as "that old game WoW is still so popular, hackers are attacking it".

They DDOS Blizzard's ISP, not Blizzard themselves.

They aren't even DDoSing blizzard directly, they're hitting the ISP. There's not much blizzard can do on their end about that.

So it can pretty much only be mitigated if the ISPs beef up their authentication then?

    Distributed Denial of Service

The Internet is Huge. There is no way one ISP is going to be able to beef up their systems enough to handle the entire Internet. DDOSes will always be an issue.

There isn't "a source." It's thousands or millions of computers all over the world pinging the servers over and over and over again, so fast that they're overwhelmed. The source is a malware infection that's been propagating over the internet for X period of time.

A DDos is more or less overloading the server with thousands upton thousands of quiries.
Just like the millions of players can overload a server by all trying to login to the same server.

There is atm no way to know who is a player and who is part of a bot net used in a DDos attack!

seriously... if there was a easy solution you wouldn't even know wtf a DDos is.

The only way to stop DDOS is to stop Poodlecorp and that aint happening.

america is currently chipping away at internet privacy yet again.

expect DDOSers to get caught in 2017 as new laws go into effect and it becomes much easier for govts to track people
