Why is it a surprise that when the group #1 split in two grous (Serenity and Method) and the group #2 stops raiding (Paragon), the #3 group wins?
Not sure why.
#4 is the same still.
No big surprise there.

Is it really shocking that people clear a raid after 17 hours of attempts?
Exorsus is a very hardcore guild and they figured out a rly smart tactic on the hardest boss (cenarius) wich won them the race. With 3 dps warrs (leech buff ftw) doing as much healing as their 5 healers. Letting them dps throu the reflect dmg debuff and make p1 twiice as fast as the other guilds.
Its Similar to how paragon won in Highmaul in alrge part because they had an enahncement shammy on imperator and why method won in brf because they figured out a smart way to handle blackhand p3 with 3 rogues.
Because they weren't as good. That's typically what happens when you lose a contest.

By the "traditional teams" do you mean Method and Paragon?
The previous expansion's "Method" are now split between Serenity and Method, with Method absorbing another guild I forget the name of who were previously 4th or 5th if memory serves. Splitting your strength tends to weaken the team.
Paragon ran out of Finnish raiders and several left, so they aren't raiding this xpac.
As everyone's saying, Exorsus were 3rd on Archimonde and Garrosh, as well as 6th on Blackhand. It makes sense really.
