There is one ongoing myth that I think is very relevant to this expansion. The Earthmother Elune and the Blue Child. This may have been just as obvious an Easter egg as the death of the guardian Tyr and the naming of Tirisfall. According to Wowwiki the Earthmother is the Tauren diety who was once plagued with Dark whispered that led the Tauren to war with themselves so she blinded herself sending both of her eyes across the sky. These are Azeroth’s two moons. Yes, Azeroth has two moons one white and the other Blue and were visible in early vanilla.
The Earthmother. Azeroth.
According to Wowwiki the Earthmother is the Tauren diety who was once plagued with Dark whispered that led the Tauren to war with themselves so she blinded herself sending both of her eyes across the sky. Plagued by dark whispers sending inhabitants to was seems to indicate Old God corruption and it supports the theory that the Earthmother is Azeroth herself. The fact that both these “figures” are dieties and Stonemother Therzane still has both her non moon-sized peepers supports this.
If all this is true then the sleeping Titan may not just be sleeping but is actually blind. This may be why the Titan’s created the Emerald Dream to communicate with the Titan instead of talking directly to her. This keeps her crippled/(in bed) instead of awake where the Old God’s can shout evil in her ear … until the nightmare came at least.
The White Moon. The Mother.
These moons have powers as well. The Night Elves worship the larger of the two moons, the white moon which is said to house the diety Elune. This moon is also refered to as “The Mother.” Elune has offered aid to the Night Elves quite often throughout the ages and in Legion is even actively turning Ysera into a constellation (or possibly a celestial entity) and purifying the Tear of Elune. It is my theory that that Elune is the sentient core of the moon itself that was ripped from the sleeping Titans eyes. Always watching but from afar.
The Blue Moon. The Child.
Little is known about this moon other than according to Wowwiki when the 5 Dragonflights were empowered with the powers of the Pantheon these moons were in perfect Alignment. This “Great Conjuction” has the ability to repower the Dragonflights with all five powers of the Titans. On the other hand if an Old God stands in their place it could be quite devastating.
The Black Temple and the Blue Moon.
Sidenote: During the Burning Crusade the Blue Child was said to have been sent away from his mother to see the universe (it disappeared from Azeroth.) developers said it was a graphical error that prevented it from being seen in the sky. It later reappeared in Mist of Pandaria but no one really noticed.
Wild SPECULATION TIME!!
1. My theory is that it found it’s way to the Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley. Unlike Draenor’s two moons which can be seen from Hellfire Peninsula this moon was clear and bluish and you could see what looks like a reflection of Azeroth if you look close. If this is not a graphical error it may be that this celestial body is looking out for Illidan or at the very least watching him. Further proof is that the Moon in Alternate Draenor looks nothing like the moon we saw in the Black Temple.
2. Draenor has two moons, the Pale Lady and the Bloodmoon but you can’t see a reflection of Azeroth in either of them. Unlike the Blue Moon MIA from Azeroth and seen in Black Temple Here is an image of the moon above Supremus and Illidan.
3. More speculation is that the Blue Moon showed a holographic vision (Not just a flashback) of Tyrande right before he died in the quest giving by Xera witnessing Illidan’s last moments. The Vision of who he is doing all this for and what he sacrificed to accomplish this. There is no proof for this other than the shade of the vision s this is PURE speculation.
4. The Shrine of the Two Moons and the Shrine of the Seven Stars in Pandaria may be an indication of how powerful these moons are. The Two MoonShrine/Horde Capital is obviously a tribute Elune and the Blue child. The Seven Stars/Alliance Capital is in reference when the Pantheon still had Seven Members including Sargeras. The Mogu did not know the Pantheon had fallen to Sargeras yet. The Two moons deserved just as much respect as the Pantheon itself. This and the fact that they can create beings such as the five Dragonflights they are kinda a big deal no one knows about. Another interesting not is the Blue Moon returned in that expansion.
5. Even if N’Zoth gets into the vault where the sleeping/blind Azeroth lies Azeroth would not be as powerful without her eyes. Sure N’Zoth could simply plop his Mindflayer-eske body over her head and tell her what to do but he could just be biding his time. Still only a partial victory… Only half as strong. Even if the Legion and Sargeras himself is defeated he may not strike until the time is right. When the moons Align.
6. Total Eclipse Theory. In the Caverns of Time: end Time Dungeon N’Zoth’s victory was still incomplete and Tyrande was still able to call to Elune for Aid even if she was insane. Her last words are “I can...see the light of the moon...so clearly now. It is...beautiful...” Clearly N’Zoth forgot about Elune in the future otherwise there would be no gentle “goodnight.” If N’Zoth wants to win the moons have got to go.
Ok I know that is another wall of text but I’ve been letting it build up World Questing. Have at it.
