Sorry, Chrysia, I figured out how much of an idiot I was being

Couldn't figure out how 1/x + 1/y = 1 could be simplified to y=x/x-1

But you just move the x, reciprocal the y, then change the 1 to x / x and combine. Not going to go into how stupid I was to not be able to see that. I figured it out an hour later in the shower without paper or books or resources.

But then I got the question Tan (x/y) = x + y to differentiate.

Which I think is Sec^2(x/y) * ((y - x * dy/dx) / y^2) = 1 + dy/dx

Simplifying that never got me to the answer the book had (though I spent most of the time trying to use 1 / cos^2 which was easier to simplify imo, while the book used Sec^2)

So I guess my question is, did I even differentiate that correctly? Just clarify I got that far and I can pretend like I know how to do algebra on it later

If I'm simplifying that right it should come out to dy/dx = (y * sec^2(x/y) - 1)/(x * sec^2(x/y)+1). Unless I'm too tired and missing something.

Differentiation is easy. But if I can't do basic algebraic simplification, what hope is there for the future of math xD
