Meh. I work 4 ten-hour shifts. A couple extra hours a day is nothing, especially when it gives you an extra day off. And frankly, just having to go to work ruins your day already, so it's not like you're losing anything with those extra hours.

well, i guess that happens when you have only guns in your head instead of more important things like worker rights

40hours/week is already alot and making people work more is just cruel

No shit with most of the "new" jobs create being part time/ seasonal or independent contractors with no benefits people need to work 2 jobs to scrape by in some areas with rising costs of living.

'Americans work 25% more the Europeans' - ... told the AP. Did I finish the sentence correctly? In any case, they work 25% more than who?! What's the baseline? Does work more mean more hours per week? Also what does it matter who the source is assuming it's backed by facts.

More hours. Thing is we get paid less then compared to our European brothers to the east(or whatever direction they are)

Anything above 6h per day of work seems unreasonable to me.

I do not live in stereotypes of US/EU/Asian and i do not care if there are norms.
I will probably die poor on the streets but i will never slave my self like that ever.

American's work longer hours than many places around the world. We have a very demanding/competitive work force.

    Yeesh, that's crazy.
I'm pretty much always 80hrs with a few weeks per year that have deadlines that can push it to 90 or so.

I work "RDO", or 4 nine-hour shifts and an eight-hour shift every other Friday. Basically the same idea.

I'm so happy I'm not american then as I work way more that 40 hours and 25% on top of that... Ouch!

Not sure addicted is the right word to be tossing around. I'm pretty sure if people could work less and get better benefits in terms of time off they'd happily accept it. Our protection under the law is not nearly as strong as it is in the EU so therefore employers aren't going to change. Yeah you see some of the bigger companies (Apple/Google,etc) offer better benefits in terms of time off/vacation/etc but its more as a perk to recruit people and to retain that top tier talent. You'll never see the average company provide such benefits unless they're legally required to do so. Hell look at how archaic maternity leave here is in the states still. It's terrible but unless our government actually did something it won't change and since citizens united and lobbyists for big corporations..it never will.

The sad truth is as soon as you ease up on the reigns more people will choose slack off and be lazy than people who become more motivated and work harder.

While I definitely agree I'd be a happier employee if I got the same pay and worked less hours. I can also probably get the same amount of work done too but that is not true for everyone. I am sure some sectors could benefit from a shorter work day but there are many many others where that would be a detriment.

    Worker rights HYPE kappa

Maybe this is just me being an asshole and all, but I have problems filling my 38h with work and I'm actually a "worker" (you know, someone that has to move stuff with his hands) - shit-mid tier worker class.

What do people even work as when they do 45h/weeks. Slaves?

I literally *hide* myself whenever I'm done with *my* work, so I don't have to do more stuff. Working 10h a day? Oh gawd, the day would never end. How can you even stay productive for that long - every day - every week - every month. Whenever I have to do additional hours, or arrive at work on saturday, the *whole* workplace is like... 60% less effective.

There are already many people who chose to be lazy and such in such an absurd work climate. If anything it's better to go the route EU(In terms of work hours) is doing. I'd also say the people would be much more happy and be more willing to work to.

Sure, it sounds good on paper. But you're not going to get people to take a pay cut for less hours. And it would be a pay cut because you can't force employers to pay people the same amount for less hours.

I agree, I'd rather do four 10s than five 8s. I was thinking back to my younger Army days where during PG1 I worked seven days on, 2 days off - 12 hour days. There's no time limit when killing commies

And in the meantime, in japan, people die from overwork so often that they want do to a law for limiting extra hours.
