Russian Warships in the English Channel

Russian Warships have been videod in the English Channel today.

Does anyone else think we are getting closer to war?

    Telegraph Report

"Russian warships have been pictured off the coast of Britain, en route to a suspected bolstering of the bombing campaign on the besieged Syrian city Aleppo.

Royal Navy vessels were closely monitoring the fleet as it passed through the English Channel at around 9am on Friday.

Admiral Kuznetsov, an aircraft carrier, and Peter the Great, a Kirov class battlecruiser, were among those filmed off Ramsgate, Kent, in footage posted online.

The Russian vessels were being shadowed by the Royal Navy as they headed towards the eastern Mediterranean via the Dover Strait.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has said the Russian fleet will be marked "every inch of the way" as he claimed the deployment was aimed at testing British capabilities."

Can a mod please correct the title! (should be 'Channel')

They are in international waters, like ship do everywhere in the world. Not news worthy.

No, but media would like to make it so. Anti-russian hysteria is at all time high.

The ship is already being escorted, so nothing to see here other than sensational headlines in the papers. I guess nothing interesting is happening in the UK atm.

Edit: Can't wait for this topic to turn into "USA TECH BEST, RUSSIA TECH NOT SO BEST" like any other topic about Russia...

There are good reasons for that though. Russia attacking their neighbours and annexing parts of them and all that.

don't worry, clinton will make sure we do go to war with russia.

it'd be nice for peace to be an option. but with her, it will not be.

They've never needed to go past it in decades either. Who cares? Why does it matter? What will it change? They'll prob go through it again when they go home too.

Possibly, but this girl is from the Black Sea Fleet. The ships passing Britain belong to the Northern.

All that steam . Hopefully the crew is capable of rowing in case all that top notch Soviet machinery goes the way of the Dodo.

But yeah; international waters, both sides play that game.

    This is why it matters...

Firstly, this is clearly a show of force by Russia... they could EASILY have gone round the UK and totally avoided British/French waters.

Secondly, the reason those ships are being moved is to bolster Russian firepower in preparation for USA stupid idea to create a 'no-fly zone'.

Thirdly, this is Russias ONLY aircraft carrier... theyre going all in regarding Syria.

Three indications that Russia are posturing.

Nothing particularly remarkable about it, other than the fact the russian navy seems to have actually told the UK they were coming through ahead of time (instead of just skirting our territory unannounced like they usually do).

People think Russia is preparing to go to war when in truth thats the last thing russia wants. It's economy is in shambles, their is no way they would want or even be able to carry out a sustained conflict. This is exactly why they are rattling their nuclear saber and you can expect that to escalate if Clinton is elected.

How else do they expect Russia to move ships from their northern ports to their southern ports? Magic?

Why would they take a detour and increase travel time for no reason? That's like saying a person going from western Suramar to Eastern Suramar could EASILY go via Highmountain.

I don't see the US navy being scared of a couple of ships. Most likely they are being sent so the ships there can withdraw for maintenance/repairs lol.

It's actually an aircraft cruiser, the media just mis-report it because nobody but Russia built any AC cruisers post WW2.
