Because by all accounts it was a longshot of a win. Trump benefitted from the perfect storm.

Comey's letter reignited Republican zeal and increased turn out and votes by people who wouldn't have (backed up by exit poll data)
Immense turnout from working class whites and rural whites (who had been overlooked)
Extremely poor turnout from millenials, gen X, and blacks

Basically, Trump's core flooded the polls while the main demographics giving Hillary the expected edge didn't show up.

A longshot according to who? The polls which were proven to be totally inaccurate on the day of the election? The pundits who took them as gospel?

This election became a pathetic joke after the primaries. Clearly a bipartisan system is flawed if both the republican and democratic candidate are considered awful by a vast majority of the population. But I'm the crazy one because I voted for a 3rd party. I'm shocked to see that the Bernie-supporters actually use Trump's victory as evidence against choosing Hillary for the candidate. Like the redneck-hordes would rather vote for Bernie, hah! A "socialist" could never have won the election. Bernie-supporters who didn't vote for Hillary just made the world a worse place to live in. DNC got punished? It's the little people that have to pay for this shit, the same people Bernie was trying to protect. It was a big voter turnout. The only blame really is on themselves. Hillary was not the best candidate for the dems. They bet on the wrong person. Too many mistakes along the way, and Hillary does have a checkered past no matter how you spin it.

I also think that things would went very differently if Sanders would have been the Democrat's candidate. Many people who were disappointed that he gave up in favor of Clinton have probably voted for Trump. I also think that Sanders would have been the best candidate for the job, because he wanted change for USA citizens to benefit, but he also was a sane man and not the narcisstic, misogynic, xenophobic asshole which is Trump.

German marriage-citizenship laws aren't quite that liberal - you need to be married to a German citizen AND resident in Germany for several years (I believe that marriage to a German citizen does allow you residency, though, so that part would work - if you just want residence, rather than German citizenship before renouncing US citizenship).

Ironically though German Citizenship laws are very lax if you can prove an ancestor from Germany. My cousin plays professional hockey in Germany and when he first went there to play found out he would only make something like 3/4th of the Money of other players because there is a limit on how much they can pay "imports"... Our grandfather Though was from Germany and his family had immigrated here before he was born So being 4th Generation German He was able to obtain Dual Citizenship somehow allowing him to be paid fully and not count against the teams Import cap.....

Although I believe it wasn't untill his 2nd season that he was able to get citizenship He had to live in the country for something like 6 months to 1 year and then prove ancestry.

No. The only shot at actual electoral reform would have been a Clinton win and her putting up multiple moderate to left leaning judges to the SC bench in order to make the hard ruling on gerrymandering and lobbying.

That's why I've been claiming that a vote for Trump, despite being the anti establishment president, is actually more a vote for status quo than Clinton.
