The similarities in the userland, however, make it much easier to port OS X code to FreeBSD than any other system. For example, both libdispatch (Grand Central Dispatch in Apple's marketing) and libc++ were written for OS X and worked on FreeBSD before any other OS.
If you want to learn more about OSX's kernel this might be a good read (or maybe not that good).

I was basing my comment off the tweet screenshot @Artorius posted, but I may have misread. It says they're not happy about color modes, not color management. Whoops.

Oh! I stand corrected. I could've sworn it was Linux based.

Biggest issue is literally it's not anonymous as most telemetry is.

So, AMD is releasing their next generation of graphics cards (Vega 10, iirc?) when, again?

Launch a bit before Christmas, consumer availability beginning of Q1 2017 IIRC

Non anonymous telemetry. Collecting browsing history, usage, location, name, etc without an opt out and stuck in the driver. The biggest issue is non anonymous.

Excellent, I'll look forward to it. Hopefully it'll be at least in the same ballpark as Nvidia's mid to high end hardware (eg: 1070 for this generation). I was disappointed that the 480 was only equivalent to a 1060 or so.

Yeah, no kidding - that's just an absurd level of intrusion for a graphics card driver with no opt in/out option, or at least a notification. Not only that, but I don't exactly think of Nvidia as a company that has a lot of experience dealing with the security of user data. Sure, they have a lot of propriety data (card designs and the like), but that all originates within the company. I don't have the level of confidence they'll keep that PI data safe compared to a company like Google.

There are times I miss the days when electronics were dumber.

I still do not understand the expectation that the 480 would be competitive with the gtx 1070. AMD said from the start that it was a 200-250 dollar card. Why would they retail a graphics card for 250 dollars when it was competing with 500 dollar cards?

True. My disappointment wasn't with the 480 itself, but rather that AMD's cards stopped at the 1060 level. (eg: a 490 vs 1070, 490X vs 1080, or something similar)

They didn't have enough budget to get both Polaris and Vega out at the same time so they're doing it in importance order. The "mainstream" market as they call it went first and we should receive the Vega cards soon.

I couldn't sleep last night due to workers outside my house picking the worst time to start digging up the road. Maybe it was a major cable/pipe cut or something.
