    New Ghoul Model!?

MMO-Champ posted an interview and it looks like a new model for our Ghoul is in the works finally!

    Model Updates
The team looks at a lot of old models, such as the Death Knight's ghoul model and considers if it helps to push the story to update the model.
The team tries to update models that can be an overall fidelity win for the game.
The Death Knight ghoul is a good example, as once it is updated, the new model will appear everywhere in the world where there are ghouls. The likelyhood of that happening is higher than something that is a model just used by one class or in one place in the game.
There aren't any plans to update skyboxes in older zones right now. The team tries to utilize the existing world in ways that make sense for the storytelling.
The invasions allowed players to go back and see some zones that new players may have never experienced before.
The team would love to go back and update these skyboxes and it could be done while maintaining the familiarity of the old skybox.
They never want to change the world in a way that makes the player feel like they can no longer connect with the world they remember.
In Patch 7.2 the team is going to update many different demon models, including some of the new ones created for Legion.
The team wants to do more for shapeshifting and different forms, but it is a smaller subsection of the player base that plays that one class or spec. Spending a lot of time on that model means that a lot of time is being spent on something that not a lot of people are going to get to enjoy. The things that the majority of the playerbase will be able to experience come first, then smaller things.
There are no plans right now to do more Druid forms in the immediate future, but it is something that will always continue to think about and do as often as possible.
Varian's sword changed color on the Patch 7.1 loading screen to match the in game cinematic.

    So.... in today's Dev Q&A:

"A ghoul model update is coming in a future patch, maybe Patch 7.2."

FUCKING DO THIS ALREADY! Tired of looking at a 16 Polygon Ball-bag with legs. It's 2016 and Trump is president... Make Ghouls great again!

So in other words, unless we're getting a new Scourge themed expansion, we're just gonna be stuck with old vanilla models. Great...

That didn't confirm that a new ghoul model is in the works, OP. The two sentences before the one you highlighted are part of the answer.

They're just saying that if they update a model of a minion used by a class, it's more likely that they'll update a model that isn't only used by that class, but also has a presence in the rest of the game.

Meanwhile Warlock demon pets get another update in 7.2....because it's been weeks since they last tweaked them.

I don't understand how you got that from the OP.

Sounds to me like a new ghoul model is being worked on because it CAN be applied WoW-worldwide.

Then maybe they can work on the abomination models.

Then I can stomach choosing that talent.

Considering this is a Burning Legion themed expansion and the Scourge have been contained in Northrend ever since Arthas was defeated. There is no story presence for Scourge themed mobs. Therefore, there is no reason to update them.

This is why Warlock minions got updated and Unholy Death Knights keep on using Vanilla models for theirs. We'll be stuck with those models unless there is another Scourge based event later in WoW's lifespan.

I like the old school feel of the ghoul and abom. I didn't like the new warlock demon models they introduced, so I got a feeling it would be the same with dk pets if they were to do it.

You're missing the context if you only focus on that part.

They're saying that, hypothetically speaking, once the ghoul model is updated, that update also applies to every other ghoul in the world.

And that part of the sentence points to it likely getting an update.

I suggest you read it again. They never said they will update it. It was merely used as an example.

Glad there is someone else who thinks logically..

I think it would be cool if the pet changed with your artifact. If you're in a raid, it's not likely that someone will see your weapon but your pet is right there. Even hunters can switch appearance on Hati so why should not DKs be able to do that with their ghoul?

They're not saying there has to be a Scourge themed update, they're saying that models that are used in multiple areas instead of just one are more likely to be updated. There are tons of ghouls in the game.

So, it's a matter of time since Sylvannas is a ticking time-bomb and an Undercity raid would be cool.

Hopefully undead themed expansion next. Too much demons this and last expansion.

The only areas where there are ghouls in plentiful quantity are about 8 years old. This includes Northrend and the Plaguelands in Eastern Kingdoms.
To my knowledge, ever since Arthas was killed, there has been a very low Scourge presence since in canon they've all been contained in Northrend by the new Lich King. So, unless the Scourge are to return somehow in the next expac, Blizzard has no logical reason to divert development of content to update the Scourge models.

More than likely the next expansion will be themed around Azshara and the Old Gods. Possibly the Zandalari as well.

We already had Siege of Orgrimmar. I think another raid centered on invading a Horde capital would be stupid.

" if it helps to push the story to update the model."

so no, what theyre saying is, if a patch comes where they are needed and going to be seen alot more, they will update it, and it will also update all the old models in the world aswell, so if we get a bunch of undead somewhere either in a future expansion or in a patch, as remember, the dreadlords raise and control undead aswell, we could see a update, but blizzard hasent confirmed it they just used it as an example
