Arcane alternative is presence of mind which makes your next two Arcane Blasts instant on a sixty second cooldown.
Fire alternative is scorch...the spell that allows us to be mobile, maintain our rotation and has no cooldown but hits like a wet noodle.
It's just the same thing with Mages...you can see it with Ice/Prismatic/Blazing barrier.
Three very similar (at core) specs given tweaks to similar abilities to differentiate them as much as possible.
Since I knew that was how we functioned going in (supernova/blast wave/Ice Nova...Charged up/flame on/frozen touch) it doesn't ruffle my feathers.
Much more perplexed by the changes to flame on and combustion. Don't get me wrong, I see the positive with the flame on change. We were absolutely too dependent on Flame On AND it was turning fire into orange Arcane. You know, a big flashy burn phase. We have two specs right now built around big flashy burn phases.
I am all for fire having on demand burst, but we're based on burning things. We should be the sustained damage Mage spec..so yeah, combustion should not compete with an Arcane Mage using Arcane Power. If this helps bring us back there, good.
Rune of Power still there though...albeit nerfed, it's still too strong NOT to take.
Firestarter still a thing? Really? I thought it'd be for the chop for being useless...and they nerfed it as well.
And Cauterize MAYBE baseline...but not greater invisibility which means fire and frost still tote around a 95% useless ability.
Okies, decent first iteration...some to like, some to hate, let us see where it goes.
