And the most frustrating part is that now that it happened, people are making it sound like any opposition to anything bad will just make it worse.

I'm actually less worried about the actual racists as I am about the non-racists willing to back off on their own moral stance just because of the rhetoric about "making it worse" by "angering the racists" or something.

Calling Republicans and Trump racists doesn't solve any problems. The change has to be toward calling behavior, written policy, or speech itself racist. Without that distinction it is merely an attempt at applying a stigma without argumentation.
