Horde No more foodstamps for alot of people in America

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMtTxvvLWEs <-(short local news station report)

Apparently people are able to get food stamps even though they arent actively searching for work and now its being removed. What do you guys think of this.

I like how the first comment is "Stop having children you cannot afford" for several reasons....

1-The people who want these laws are the same people who want to ban abortion
2-This has 0 affect to people with children/dependants.

This is the post-fact crowd at work. lol

I don't really care if people use foodstamps, so I think it shouldn't be taken away. Foodstamps is what? 30 dollars a year from me? I gladly pay it if it helps someone, the whole welfare/foodstamp queens is grossly blown out of proportion.

It's funny because there's alot of people in america who work full time but still need the assistance.

Not a lot of people and only adults who are able to work, but aren't for whatever reason. Its not even all of america. Just a few counties whos unemployment is less then 10%.

SO find work or get in a job training program to continue receiving benefits, I see no problem with this.

    Per Video description:

The new rules, which affect people in Gwinnett, Cobb and Hall Counties mandate that able-bodied adults without children can collect food stamps for only three months in a three-year period, unless they get into a job or training program
So in short, if you're able-bodied and have no kids, you only get food stamps for 3 1 month periods unless you're actively seeking work.

This isn't new. Iowa has been like this for awhile.

The problem is it is probably costed/costs more to draft, get enacted, and enforce than it will actually save. Just like the drug testing.

Wal-mart is actually fairly good pay compared to most local businesses who have a strong tendency to only allow part time and/or use "we're local" as an excuse as to why its all minimum wage all the time.

What about people who are disabled and can't work?
Then they're not able-bodied, and this rule doesn't apply.

Disability is its own can of worms.

Some states its overly easy to get disability. Don't get along well with others? Yep disability, heres your money.

Other states its overly difficult. Oh have large list of illnesses and physical difficulties and a medical file thats two thousand pages long? We'll put you on the 2-3 year waiting list and deny you the first time because we do that with everyone, so you have to wait another 2-3 years and still likely not get it.

So I'm at university and I work in the IT department at the university as a student employee. We're not allowed to work more than 28 hours a week because of obama care. Anymore than 28 and they would have to offer us health insurance. I work in the hardware support department and we make most out of the student employees in the IT department. I make 9.05 an hour. I'm glad I get food stamps because of it.

Able-bodied is up to the state to decide.

There are people who flat out cannot work due to physical disabilities, who cannot get disability because the system is so tied up in the courts for so many states that its damn near impossible to get it, unless of course you know someone.

As watching the 2 min video was clearly too much for you, this only applies to able bodied adults.

If it gets people NOT working who can work, and they start paying taxes, Im fine if it costed more. Welfare programs should be aimed at getting people back to work in my world view.

Drug testing is just dumb for a number of reasons, Starting with, I have smoked dope for 20 years, had over 10 jobs, all requiring a Drug test, and I have yet to be turned down due to a failed drug screen.

    No, not really.

All that's required to meet an exemption is documented evidence. Medical reports/Doctor's reports are usually sufficient.

Pretty much this right here. These things "sound" good in concept, but in execution they're burning MORE money

You don't say? Maybe that's because your income levels are completely fucked. Not that it's better in Canada, but a lot of people struggle to get by these days, especially with our housing market the way it is.

At some point in American history the working poor are going to learn how to vote for their best interest.
