Modern social-political movements tend to be amorphous and not have any singular figurehead or unanimously agreed-upon uniting ideology. Please point to a "leader" of Feminism or Islam, and you'll understand why it is foolish to insist that the "alt right" have a leader.

And you see this pattern repeated on youtube clips, news articles, any public comment section. The hordes come forth to mislead, spread misinformation, downplay, meme, troll, anything but directly address the actual subject matter.

Make no mistake about it. You have here a white nationalist openly talking about how the "lying press, Lügenpresse" - a word DIRECTLY taken from Nazi verbage of the 1930s, "is barely even human". Discussing how "the white man" is this and that positive attribute, and "American race relations need to be re-examined". "Hail Trump, hail our people".

This is the core of what is behind this social media trollery. There are three kinds of people involved: those that are ignorant and legitimately deranged in what they find amusing, those that actively support these agendas and finally bots. If you don't think bots exist for these things, you are sadly behind the times. Most of the comments you will find on politically themed youtube videos or news articles are actually botted. They search for specific key words to trigger them (yes, legitimately, not in the meme sense) and plant generic posts (such as "leftist propaganda", "people are dumb lol Trump #2016, etc etc etc).

And all of this stuff, whether intentional or not, leads directly back to these "movements" as depicted in the video. If you find that offensive and don't wish to be associated with such "values", maybe it's time to open a history book and re-examine your "news" sources like Breitbart or alt right youtubers.

I was under the impression that Mussolini adopted it for the Italian fascists to recall the 'past glory of Rome and its people'. If I recall correctly I think some radicals had started using it and then Mussolini pushed for making it the official salute for the party. Hitler then adopted it from him (as he did with a lot of Mussolini's pageantry and dress and then modified it).

There was a movement which started glorifying the ancient Rome in pre-WW2's Italy. Unfortunately they heavily bought into folkloristic myths and borrowed from depictions in art which seemingly praised the Roman culture as they envisioned it. There was and is a movement like that in every country. Basically that's then all summarized into some new socio-ethnic myth which is then becoming a form of identity movement. In Italy they believed that ancient Rome was mainly a militaristic society which it was decidedly not but in the late 20s nobody cared about historical accuracy instead pathos and a desire of restoration of ancient glory dominated parts of Europe. Which is why Hitler and the Nazis as a whole adopted and altered it. By having one leader with one guiding vision spearheading a much grander movement people identified quickly as like-minded ones among themselves and their own leader which also meant adopting and cultivating common habits, speeches, terminologies, behaviours and memes as we would call them today.
