    1. Warrior class linearity. There was increasingly less reason to play anything that splits soul points among three trees- which for me was the ENTIRE appeal of Rift at launch. The last time I played, about 8 months ago or so, there was basically no reason to do anything but dump all points into a given tree to fill it out totally. That's not interesting.
    2. Ugly art direction. Overall the game's aesthetic is rather unappealing. It lacks elegance and clarity in favor of alien and garish art direction.
    3. Leveling became too slow in the Post-Storm Legion era. A lot of same-y quests that don't mean a whole lot or feel cohesive. All of which seems to go on for-fucking-ever.

Extra criticism: I don't really like the stat system at all in Rift. Stacking one main stat is not interesting. When I play an RPG of any kind what I want in return is gameplay that is richly complex. I want to make choices elemental to the building of a character that are entirely lateral.
I agree with all of these points, and let no one think I'm defending the game with my statement. To be fair though, they are starting to make changes towards making hybrids viable with legendary abilities. A perfect example being BM for Warrior, if you upgrade Fierce Strike in the BM tree it'll do it's regular damage but then increase your crit chance with non-bm abilities by 5% for 20s which if my memory serves me well crit is incredibly useful for Paragon. Another good example is if you upgrade Seasoned Strike in Warchanter it deals damage but then increases all damage and healing of non-Warchanter abilities by a scaling amount.

Now, do I think these are the way to go for hybrids? No, I'm still a firm believer that if I'm not totally unaware of how talent trees work I should be able to make some fun and interesting builds with just my talent points and not play around with secondary systems like the masteries or legendary abilities. However I do like to try to give credit when it's due.

You ever play an elemental shaman in WoW? Same concept, lighting everywhere.

Cannot be a greatsword/hammer+plate wielding human there doing it. Not the same.
What i'm looking for is preety much a ret pally with lightning... a man can dream.

My point was: the rather unique class is the main selling point for me, but it's not enough with the issues the game itself has.

This a MILLION time this. this one thing was the sole reason i run away from the game years ago when the 1st expansion just came out i had a max level char gone into the expansion hoping for some beautifull things but hell no same ugly clown characters and monsters x.x with brown/gray plains and rocks and hills everywhere 24/7..

i just cant immerse myself into something like this..... it literaly kills my eyes...

    Well where do i start,

    The Shop/monetization

I said it wayyyy back in SL, they are out of touch when it comes to pricing. They started out with a bit of boosts, and mostly fluff, and that could have worked IF they didnt priced it like a madman. Or in short they are absurdly out of touch with the market imo.

If you want some numbers, and thats only the wardrobe system

    http://forums.riftgame.com/general-d...ral-stuff.html

    Community

Besides Trions way of handling the Forums, the Forum also has alot of ppl who derail threads on purpose, especially when it comes to certain topics (like the bans from end of last year, balance issues, or simple feedback threads). And sure i cant "prove" they do it with a certain intent, but it damn looks like that. And that whole thing got really bad last year, even before we had the raid drama.

    PvP

Anyone remember, end(ish) of SL ? We had a active PvP Community, maybe not the biggest, but still. We got PvP Dimensions, 5vs5 "Arena", and the balance wasnt that bad (sure the there was some stuff with gear, but it wasnt worse then bolstering, and for sure not that pve >pvp)

And then came NT, killing PvP in one single blow. Now i could go and point out everything they could have or still can do to make pvp fun again, but the forums are full of it, and its clear they dont care anymore.(sadly)

oh yeah and SFP, the expac, where less WFs(choice) is somehow more content.

    PvE

All i can say is, SFP is a joke. The dungeons are lackluster, and there isnt even a bit of challenge anywhere, because giving npcs more life isnt balance.

There is no word about the 1 raid that should come( that will be a balance nightmare anyway, there is pretty much noone left to test it, same as lvl 70 pvp for SFP), gearing is yeah just take a look at the fragment system (trove did it better ^^)

But the thing that pisses me off the most, somehow, is the rehashed dungeon. its exactly the same but still buggy like .... I mean the hardest part is/was the waiting for a softreset so you can kill scarn

    RNG

Its bad, it was allready for some parts in NT, but now its just sad.

Back in SL they got it right. Hunt rifts farming for greaters was just balanced right, you could even go so far and invest credits for lures, because you knew the payout, even if you sometimes did them 1-2 days without 1 singledrop.

In NT they tried to do the same thing, but with the twist of horrible droprates, and rifts that got boring pretty fast (and a nightmare if you did them with certain randoms)

In SFP we have fragments, and they are jsut not fun, and will lead to a huge balnce issue later on. I wouldnt be suprised (if anyone has played it, knows whati mean) if we end up at the same spot STO is right now, where you can over equip for content like crazy, but have no content to match that gear. And maybe that works/is fun for some ppl in STO, but it wont work in RIFT, since its a really diff nature of gameplay.

Besides the obvious Trion failings and corruption my issues are:

-Souls being way too linear. At launch having these multiple trees with a large talent selection PROMOTED Hybrid builds and slowly over time to "buff" underperforming specs they would straight up buff 61 point specs (or putting all your talent points in one tree) to the point that they were the only ones viable. There is no such thing has hybrids anymore which is the main reason the trees are big and vast like this in the first place. I miss the days of playing my cleric and going half into water healing and half into heat shielding and it was actually good.

-Removing soul flavor. They straight up removed any flavor or uniqueness in terms of viability. R.I.P. defiler you were one of the most creative healing specs in any game.

-Expansions making content obsolete. What's the fucking point of launching an expansion when it has less content then the previous?!?!

Appologies in advance, this is going to be a long read. I've done my best to try keep it readable.

    Class Mechanics
    • Stats - Simply put, there just aren't enough of them to make gearing up interesting. You generally want to focus on just two of them, one of which is the primary stat of your class, and the other being determined by if you're a DPS, Healer or a Tank. It does mean you can quickly eyeball the stats on an item to see if it's better for you, which is good, but on the other hand it does lead to very stale itemisation. The only time it gets sort of interesting is when you're approaching the cap for Crit Power, at which point you simply look to stack Attack or Spell power respectively, while maintaining that cap. It also means that the Dev team only have a couple of leavers they can use to adjust damage output of underperforming specs, almost all of which lie in messing around with their talents to add rediculous damage modifiers in there somewhere.
    • Souls - There are way too many of them, and they're bloated beyond belief with too many filler abilities and talents. I'd much rather they removed a lot of those "X ability deals 1% more damage" type ones all togther and just rolled those damage bonuses into the souls gift for spending points into it. The problem is that no matter what choices are on offer, you always want to take them all for your primary soul anyway, any choice there is just an illusion. You do get slightly more choice when it comes to where to spend your offsoul points, however you generally end up spending them in the same couple of offsouls no matter what. The ones with all the low hanging Spell Power boosts. Theres very little choice here full stop.
But the worst part, for me, is that they're all hyper specialised at this point in the game. I need to AoE things? I use Stormcaller and thats that. Single target healing? Frostkeeper. AoE Healing? Chloro. I would much prefer to have fewer, but more generalised souls with the way the game has gone. Having a generalised Ranged DPS soul, a generalised Healer, Melee DPS etc would at least mean not having to change your spec every 2 pulls.
Furthermore, there's very little to really differentiate the play style of different souls. Sure, you use different abilities, but you're still making use of the exact same mechanics based on your class no matter what. As a Mage, they almost all boil down to using your Charge on the right abilities, which leads to most DPS souls feeling as though they play very similar to all the rest. While there are one or two with interesting talents, such as the Elementalist, those end up feeling more like a gimick rather than a genuine change to how the class plays.
    • Samey Abilities - This also ties in with the above, but there are a lot of abilities which are, essentially, copies of one another. Not only in the early part of each soul tree, but later on too. The Warlock is especially bad for this, where you have 6 or 7 different abilities which are just Death damage over 16 seconds. It would make for a challenge managing them all, if you didn't have a single button to reapply them all instantly. It ends up with them all being very meh as spells go. They're totally, 100% functional, but they're not at all interesting or engaging.
Most DPS specs are much the same, you have a spam macro with all the abilities you want to use on cooldown in decending order of damage, then you have maybe one or two procs and thats pretty much it. While the proc abilities can spice things up, everything in your filler macro is likely to be totally forgettable by the player. I know I don't really care which spell I'm casting at any given moment, because they're essentially filler abilities. Both in my rotation and in filling up those bloated soul trees.
I know that there are some players who vehemently defend the idea that an MMO should give you at least 5000 different abilites as you level up, but realistically, I'd prefer having 10-15 different and awesome abilities per soul than 2-3 somewhat interesting ones and whole lot of clutter on my action bars.
While we're at it, the tooltips for some spells, especially the aribiter ones, are long enough to be mistaken for a small essay. Come on Trion, you can do much better than that!

    Economics
    • Inflation - I realise its hard to keep inflation in check when every time you kill something you have money magic itself into existence, but plenty of other MMO's have come up with ways to try keep it reasonable. I think SFP is trying to do this more by lowering the amount of plat you earn and by adding in more stupid money sinks but it's too little too late really. I know for a fact that I have hundreds of millions of Plat, possiably even billions, floating around between all my characters. I assume most people are in a similar situation, where you have so much of it that it's essentially worthless at this point. Most of the none-AH trades I've done with other players have been using REX as a substitute currency for Plat, since REX is tied to some real world money so it keeps some of it's worth.
    • Stupid money sinks - I believe that the Fragments were an attempt to remove some of the plat in circulation. So were the expensive mounts they added in NT too, but unfortunatately neither of these remove anything like as much as is needed to keep things in check. Very few of they exist or work in a way that is sufficient to keep inflation under some degree of control. The best way I can come up with here would be something like being able to spend 100k plat for something like 100 Credits. It removes sizable chunks of plat from the economy, and does it in a way that makes it harder to trade back with other players for more value.

    Cash Shop
    • RNG Boxes - Adding RNG boxes, that require a cash shop key to unlock, was just a dick move. Especially when they drop from every second mob you kill. RNG lockboxes that have a chance of containing mounts on the cash shop is just a disapointment though, I do occasionally splash out on lavish in game items and if a mount that I liked the look of enough came along I would even cough up to just buy one. I refuse however to gamble on getting a cosmetic I like. I would be more than happy to pay up and just buy it, but paying to have the chance to win is just out of the question.
    • Pricing way off - For what Trion are asking me to pay, I'd constantly feel as though I've been over charged for what's on offer. I mean, I can get myself cool looking Dota Chocobo couriers for under £1. In some cases I can get multiple cool looking ones for under £1 from the community market, and have enough left over to buy cosmetic items for a hero of my choosing. I can get rare LoL skins for as little as £2.50. Hearthstone lets me pay just £1.50 to play the Arena, and I get at least one card pack from it. Trion on the other hand want me to shell out upwards of £10 in some cases just for a single cosmetic item. Their cash shop has moved to cater towards Whales more and more as the game has progressed, and I really don't like being over charged for those kinds of items.
    • Monetisation in general - Theres a lot thats already been said about this, so I'll keep it brief. Not at all happy with pretty much everything they've done here in the past 12 or so months. I won't rehash old discussions here though, this post is already getting very wall-o-texty.
    • 3 different monetisation models. So far - As a consumer, this has me very worried about spending with Trion. I don't know that what I'm buying today will even still be using the same model tomorrow. They've already tried every MMO game business model at this point, so who knows what they're going to do next? It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in them as a company.
SFP. I'm not going to go into detail here, I'm a bit sick of flogging this dead horse.
    • Lack of Content for the price point
    • Buggy and clearly unfinished.
    • Etc, etc.

Aaaaanyway, thats about it for now. I've got a lot more minor criticisms but these are the main ones at the moment.

It's an honest shame to see what RIFT has become since its 'vanilla' days to be honest. I personally considered it the 'WoW killer' or at the very least, it's best competition to date. The continued direction it's taken since it's release and over the years is sad to see. Even though I haven't played it for a little while now, I always seem to end up checking out the news and recent updates for the game, despite me not coming back; almost as if I have high hopes it'll get better.

Anyways, to be more OT -
    - The 64 bit upgrade made an improvement for me, but still performs very poorly in most areas still.
    - The art style seems to continually be dull and 'samey'
    - Animations could do with a bit of a rework
    - The RNG boxes and snakey money sinks.

i think Rift is turning more into a "Tired" MMO, the art style is becoming old and most of the animations are the same or very basic. the Questing, needs to be reworked, for example Wows quests may be Basic for lack of a better term but some of them have neat cut scenes and they do give you sort of a immersion and feel that you are a part of something, while Rifts quests you just go kill X things and and move on. now im not a RPer at all and i just dont have the time to read the quest "lore" and lets be honest most people now probably just goto a quest hub grab all the quests and go do them without really knowing WHY they are doing these quests.

but, my biggest grief with Rift right now, is the way Mounts work and their clipping of the game world. i know all of us have experienced it where you are maybe for example trying to get to a shiny on say top of a house and you use your mount to get to that roof. but with the way the graphics are your mount hits these tiny little bumps and your basically launched about 5 or so feet forward. it drives me crazy that it is not smooth. and dont even get me started on if you slowly move to a bump in the road then you hit that bump and sit on said bump and your mount is then tilted on that bump then you tap forward and you jump 5 feet.

You would think it would be a really cool concept, plate wearing, 2h wielding monster summoning lighting and blasting people away. Instead you just sit back and zap people. I mean how it feels is pretty subjective, I've always been disappointed with Tempest and disinclined to playing it but that's me. As far as a ret with lightning you might actually be looking at a Mage calling. Mix a bit of Harbinger with Stormcaller and it might be more what you're looking for. You can use the wardrobe to change the appearance of your cloth items to make them look plate and of course Harbinger turns its staff into a 2h sword, axe, or scythe depending on which buff you want.

Can't people learn how to quote shortly, without using a whole wall of copypasta ?

Was looking for this expansion, but looks like the broadcast few months ago, when everything, every zone, with not a single mob, quest, was truly empty, in fact.

Can they really look their fat asses in the mirror, proudly ?

Wrong, hybrids are back thanks to how the Legendary points work, you have a total of 5 Legendary points but only a maximum of 3 in one soul so 61 builds are kinda useless because you don't have any decent abilities in the other two souls lower trees/roots to utilise the other 2 Legendary points.

For example, one of the the highest single target Mage spec atm is 41 Elementalist and 35 Pyromancer with a 0 point Dom soul, one of the highest for Clerics is 38 Defiler, 36 Inquisitor and 2 points in Runeshaper so yes Hybrids are very much viable again.

Would like to add another point.

RNG. Fuck Planar fragments seriously. The fact an item can roll the completely wrong stats is moronic. RNG does not belong in the main game. Side content stuff fair enough but when you cannot equip something because it randomly rolled the wrong stats then there is issues.

Ah I see. Thanks dude was a bit confused. I have noticed their streams to be a bit bland recently. Like they don't really give a rats ass.
