Hay, look, it's starting to shape into an actual game. Teaser looked interesting. Not gonna buy it anyway.

When a player quits EVE and goes to WoW, the average IQ in both games increases.

If they ever manage to implement real multiplayer I would give it a shot, but I think star citizen is more likely to have released before that happens... :P

Both things are unlikely to happen

Finally updates! Then just more variety and those advertised features and it's a good game.

Its live on PC now as well. Currently downloading a 1.3gb update. A little bummed they didn't put the base building into the "original" mode. The worst part is all of the additions are cool but what I really want is the hazmat survival achievement to not reset when you die/leave planet. I want to get it without having to idle on one planet lol.

Update is definitely a step in the right direction. If they keep adding stuff like this, the game could completely turn itself around.

Now the next update should be expanding on the alien cultures and such, and make interacting with them far more rewarding.
There is a thin line between not knowing and not caring, and I like to think that I walk that line every day.

Well, I'm curious to see how the update is received and what their plans are moving forward. If they want to repair the trust they squandered with their community, they're going to start actually communicating on what they're working on and where the game is going.

Hopefully they will, because if they're hoping to sell DLC in any fashion or really, any significant number of new copies (or copies to people who initially refunded them), they're going to need to make a pretty herculean effort both in terms of delivering content and being open and transparent with their community about it.

A surprise update like this is great, but folks aren't going to be too happy if this is how they handle all their major updates moving forward : /

Resources are definitely not as common even on the "normal" difficulty. I can't imagine what survival is like. I can barely find enough plutonium to keep my launch thrusters filled right now. Prior to the update I was using this planet to grind out the extreme survival and search for ship upgrades. So I had no problem with plutonium. Deposits of Emeril are also cooler as they appear as big spheres in the ground usually with hollow centers, and the scanner shows the underground outline.

It is a step in the right direction though one thing I found odd was the chrys-whatever-it-is-called mineral requires an advanced mining laser to mine. Of course the rarity of some resources are likely to go hand in hand with the base/freighter system.

It seemed to have peaked at 5k players today which is a pretty big spike given the state of the game and the players playing prior to today.

Okay call me crazy but isn't this update a little redundant? Its a game about constantly moving forward leaving places behind and they add base building? isn't that just effectively the same thing as naming a place but you farm resources to drop something down before never visiting that world again? unless resources start to regen on worlds its still going to be a game where you add some form of 'i was here' marker on a world and have to move on to farm more items to move on to farm more.
It looks like they scrambled for "what are they screaming for?" and added base building because so many people thought it was minecraft and now that just means its got to measure up to games like Minecraft, Dont Starve or even things like Dragon Quest Builders and the existing game does not seem designed to work that way.

One thing i noticed is the universe on PS4 got re-booted. The planets names and system records all remained, but the planets enviroments gor re-spawned.

For example, my previous hilly grassy planet with tons of gold on it is now a desert with little canyon streams and only scarce nickle/heridium deposits... oh, and its now teeming with a whole roster of new life. =\

As stated in the patch notes they've changed a lot in procedural generation, rules and stuff, so that's to be expected.
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side

While I understand the generation and such - I wasn't expecting nor see a reason for the plants and animals and what kinds of minerals to be completely replaced on previous planets... especially considering they're still in my logbook when I visit that planet, but are completely absent now.

You can move your base to a new location if you want. However every space station has a portal/teleport that links up with one in your base. So your base is always available no matter what system you are in. The base system encourages moving on as you need to recruit different specialists. The building is Gek and the science is korvax so you need a station in those respective factions systems in order to recruit those specialists.

They added new elements, they added how plants spawn on the worlds, and other stuff. It required them to regenerate the universe. It probably won't be the first time they have to do it. Over all though they said your progress shouldn't be impacted. But a planet that had X might not have it after the patch. Its part of the problem when you create things with procedural generation on such a scale as NMS.

I doubt this will stop the people complaining about false advertising, but at least the ASA doesn't think there's a case for it anymore:

No Man’s Sky creators cleared of false advertising allegations

    Legally they did nothing.
Morally? Hell yes they made false promises.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
