    Winds of Winter likely delayed

In probably the least surprising news of 2016, the next book of ASoIAF is still a "good few months" away. Plus time for it to actually be published. Most sites are guessing that means mid-to-late 2017.

This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months ...

I wonder if human civilisation will survive long enough to see the final book of the series come out.

    Also, saw this amusing graphic.

Though none of these series got outpaced by their own adaptations :P

as an original reader of the books. I don't expect any book to come out without having to read the entire book series to be reaquainted.

Well GoT is pretty much a passing fad and as a fad it must be milked as long as possible.
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.

The author who will finish the books will probably be born in a year or two, be patient.

I bet Oathbringer by Sanderson comes out before WoW.

At this rate we wont need the book to come out, Nuclear Winter will have set in and we'll be LIVING A Song of Ice and Fire before we get to read it...

I mean, I get it, as a Writing Phobic writer myself, I understand his slow pace... But people have been born, lived their whole lives and died in the time it's take him to write this gods damned book.

I mean, Stephen King took more than 30 years to write 7 books in the Dark Tower series.......and those books were shorter, iirc.

Edit: Actually, it was 22 years........didn't realize DT7 came out more than a dozen years ago, sheesh.

I fully expect GRRM to die before Winds of Winter comes out.

Yeah, but on the flip side of that, Stephen Erickson wrote a 10 book series with a 1000 page average length in the time it took GRRM to write about two books...

And Malazan is easily as good as SoIaF, if not a little better.

Hadn't heard it had a new targeted date, so I can't see this as being a delay.

Still loving my decision not to bother reading the second and subsequent books after reading the first years ago. I read it about a year after it came out, at the suggestion of an acquaintance. What an utter piece of crap.

Interesting prologue ( undead thing kills some smart alec) then..

    Politics x 23748647864647812364786 then...

incest + child abuse then ...

    politics x 15241526943503475 then ...

a douche pimps out his own sister and she nurses a baby dragon ...

    the end

Didn't bother reading the rest of them, and when I heard there was going to be a tv show my reaction was mehhh.

I'm not really sure it counts as a delay. I know everyone was hopeful for late 2016, and then early 2017, but did GRRM or the publisher actually ever give an estimation?

Yeah, but Stephen King wrote a couple dozen other books during that period.

Particularly frustrating for me since at the end of season 4 of the TV show I vowed not to watch another episode until Winds was out.

So I have to keep explaining that to my friends who say "did you see what happened on GoT last night!!??".

Yeah, I considered not using the word "delayed", it's not like he ever confirmed a date. But I think most people were expecting early 2017.

Like they were expecting early 2016... mid 2016... late 2016... :P

Didn't he say at one point he was "trying really hard" to finish it before the show overtook him? I don't think anyone really believed that though :P
