That's a tough question and one I have been grappling with heavily myself. I used to until very recently own a small construction company in Washington. Washington is a state that has been getting a lot of immigration from other states since legalizing weed, many of the people who are moving have a fair bit of money and have been building houses for the last few years.

This is a market I have done quite well in. Over the last year working about 9 months out of this year I have brought in roughly 100k after taxes while paying 10 employees wages averaging about 20 an hour. Cost of living around here is extremely low so those numbers here go much further than other places. Within about a day of trump releasing his pick for attorney general I got a call from my two biggest customers for next year. One was building a 6500 square foot house on lake front property which would have been a million dollar job, the other job was a 4000 sq foot house with a 1200 square foot shop with an in law apartment on the second floor just out of town. That would have been another 800,000. Both of them cancelled, both of them were moving to Washington and building houses because they enjoy smoking weed and it's a big part of their life. I just had to layoff 10 employees over that and I'm not the only one that will end up losing big customers because of this. Mean while I see the buffoon responsible parading across the country acting like he is some gift from god because he saved a few hundred jobs one time after a lifetime of destroying peoples livelihoods so the prick could make a buck.

Some people have a damn good reason to be salty about him being elected. While I personally would not go as far as your dad, depending on how badly it affects him he may well be justified.

2 Old Timers fighting in a Australian Bar over Donald Trump..where will it end

Elderly men allegedly brawl in Sydney over the US election.

    The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

Premiership-winning rugby league coach Warren Ryan is to be charged after he allegedly assaulted
another man in an argument over Donald Trump at a pub in Sydney's east.

NSW Police said Ryan, 75, will be charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the incident at
the Pagewood Hotel at Maroubra on November 11.

Ryan became involved in a heated altercation with another man, also 75, when he allegedly turned violent
    and assaulted the other man.

It is understood the initial argument was about the US presidential election and Donald Trump's victory just days earlier.

Anyway, as to the original topic, I generally don't associate with people who proselytize about any part of their life. I mean, like, vegetarians who take every opportunity to mention it, or Christians who constantly talk about their religion, or beer distributors who constantly criticize when I really just want a damn PBR, or whatever.

One of my best friends, a person I have deep and meaningful conversations with about any topic small or large ranging from whether it's ethical to disrupt the path ants are taking to whether we'd kill off life on other planets with our bacteria and virii or if they'd kill us off the same way or both. I've known her for years. Shocked the hell out of me a few months ago when she asked me to help volunteer at her church, one which she's been heavily involved with for years.. Who knew? She never talked about it.

Edit: I'm very anti-religious, if that wasn't obvious. But I don't talk about it unless it comes up naturally in a conversation.

    Your Dad needs help.

I still associate with my friends that voted for either Trump or Clinton.

I am really glad that this election is over with, people are finally starting to calm down.

Nothing I'm saying is simple. Whatever "good" thing a person voted for Trump over was nondescript (he detailed nothing), which means they cared about a vague idea over the very specific heinous things he did detail.....like Muslim bans.

And if you pay attention, you'll see I didn't say that makes the person all bad. I said that reveals bad parts of their character and its perfectly reasonable to 86 people for having traits you find repulsive.

No, that lie needs to stop right now. I'm very sick of it.

Trump did not win a mandate. He pulled typical Repub numbers. He won because the candidate the Dems ran against him was damaged. Nothing more.

The idiocy and polarization has been building for years... years before Trump showed up on the scene.

It's amazing how much blame is placed on Trumps head when there were riots over "fake news" like "Hands Up, Don't Shoot" YEARS before he came on the scene... polarization and hate LONG before this election cycle. Division straight from the top.

Yeah, people are shit at aligning their political beliefs with the proper labels. Here, let's look at key issues.

Also, this is a big one

76% of Republicans favor path to citizenship; 62% building a wall
Two-thirds in U.S. oppose deporting illegal immigrants, building a wall
84% in U.S. favor of path to citizenship for illegal immigrants
    Also, this.

The left gets wider support on most major issues than the right. It's just...no one said the Democrats were good at marketing.

So he wants to live in an echo chamber. That sounds like a lot of Americans right now. Hence why the country is divided - no room for DEBATE.
Take a break from politics once in awhile, it's good for you.

Except for the fact that all of those "proofs" (except for the lack of real proof on most of it... if you say a lie often enough, eh comrad?) are out-shined by all of Hillaries "accomplishments".

Racist? Super Predators. Hot sauce in her purse. Late because she's on "CP" time.
Sexist? Vote for me because VAGINAS gotta stick together!

Election tampering? Russia possibly tampered with the election... but making it public that the DNC definitely tampered with the election... like Obama tried to tamper with Israels election...

Anything on your list of reasons to vote Trump? Hillary is provably worse. Hands down. every. single. metric. It's why she lost to a no-name Senator from Chicago. It's why she should have lost the nomination to a no-name Socialist. It's why she lost blue states. It's why the Left lost the WH, Senate, Congress and a majority of the State legislators.

Trump has... issues... but hands down anyone would have been better than Hillary.

He's a grown man, he can do whatever he wants. He could cut off your entire family from his inheritance because someone ate his stash of peppermint ice cream in the freezer last Saturday if he wanted to.

What are you going to do about it?

What I find hilarious is that people sit on their ass complaining, but make absolutely no attempt to affect change in the world. Bitching about politics on social media does no good for anyone.

If someone is speaking about their political beliefs in a constructive manner, who the fuck cares? If someone is flaunting their political beliefs in a destructive manner, politics is probably not the only reason to stay away from them.

The two party system is a fucking antiquated disaster. The sad part is that because of the insane amount of stupid people in our country, you're likely to guess many policy positions just from knowing which way someone leans. It's a tribal mentality that any remotely educated person tries to stay away from. The individual policy positions should be what really matters when discussing politics because no matter where you identify, there will be a surprising amount of common ground with sensible people. Forget who's president; the battle for change doesn't end there. Most people just don't give enough of a fuck and are content with bitching.

lol, all you've done is show you don't understand what racism, bigotry, xenophobia and sexism actually are.

And "comrade"? Really? The guy who voted for the first US POTUS to be a subservient lapdog to Russia (who actually tried to influence the election) is calling me comrade?

Just another shinning example of Conservative Hypocrisy™

Distancing yourself from friends because of political ideologies is something I'll never understand. Likewise, I never understood why religion could make people distance themselves from one another, but then again that's only usually happening to people on both extremes.

But as a father, you have the responsibility to care for your children. If you cut your ties with him/her [the child], you're no better than the parents who throw their children out because they're gay.

Also, I don't drink. And yes, drinking every night is a problem.
