good enough for me...in regards to the OP question: i personally think it is still the most popular MMORPG simply because i still see more press and coverage of WoW than most any other MMO out there. if you look at website representation alone, i think it still tops them all IMHO anyways.
True that there is wow tokens but generaly speaking its bit diffrent than having game without any subscriptions. Subscriptions keep game content coming and top of that usually quality of content is far superior to those that does not have any subscriptions.
While players can buy gametime with gold but at the same time someone is paying for them
World of Warcraft isnt MMO so dont get your point.
Is it important?
Popularity is fleeting, but influence is historical. I say it's more important to discuss whether or not WoW is the most influential MMO of our time.
I still dunno why people say wow is "partly f2p" because it isn't.
Blizzard gets at least 15 usd a month for everyone, no exceptions.
You have nothing suggesting otherwise. /thread
I think you're wrong. The game sold more than 3.3mil copies in the first 24 hours, matching it's record, and this is a record set when they had over 10mil subs.
Secondly, they've already said legion has had the highest concurrent players since 2010 launch of cata, which had 12 MILLION subs when that record was set. Because of that info, that means it broke the concurrent record that WOD had set with all the hype that expansion generated and bought the subs back up to 10mil at the time.
It's easily safe to say there is more people playing WoW now compared to the last 6 YEARS, and WoW was STILL top dog during those 6 years.
If you want to hate on WoW, continue on, everything you say would be baseless bullshit though.
I'd make the argument that FFXIV and WoW are the only popular MMORPGs.
So, by that token, WoW is the most popular. But the genre in and of itself is very unpopular.
