Have any of you went from 60hz 1080p to 144hz or 1440p?

Its time to get a new monitor, i was waiting for my 60hz 1080 monitor to die but it wont lol. The thing is for me i play overwatch and WoW about the same amount, 1440p would be the better choice for WoW and a 144hz panel would be better for overwatch.

I know the pros and cons of each but id like to hear from someone who had experience with both 1440p 60hz and 144hz 1080 and they came from a standard 60hz tn panel. If you had to do it over again, what would you pick?

This is on sale for another 8 hours and its the cheapest 1440p monitor ive ever seen:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-969-_-Product

If i go with 144hz there is a guy on my local craigslist that has this for 150 bucks bascially brand new he says: (dont go by this price, its usually in the ~250-270 range)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-009-_-Product

I have gtx 760 but im not too worried about that, im cool with lowering details a bit until i get a 1060 or 1070.

I went from years of 1080p 60hz to 144hz @1440p with gsync 1ms repsonse and i will never go back. You really notice it in fast paced games, everything is clean and crisp. https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/ Is what i went to.

Ya if my budget allowed id get both, but then id definitely need a GPU upgrade as well lol. I know my 760 can handle WoW at 60hz 1440p and it would do fine in overwatch with a 144hz 108p0 with lowered details, but it wouldnt be enough for both.

I just changed over and it was very much worth it.

I still get a very small amount of screen tearing, but it's like 1/20 of what it was prior to switching.

I went from 1080p 60hz to 1440p 144hz. The 1080p to 1440p jump is amazing. Its like going from an old CRT monitor to your first lcd flat panel. After getting used to it I can't even look at 1080p anymore without asking myself how I ever used that.

The refresh rate thing is a little different. Your GPU needs to be able to output higher then 60 fps consistently to notice it at all. With wow I don't notice it very much, not sure about overwatch.

If I had to pick, I would choose 1440p over 144hz any day.

I went from 60hz 1600x1200 to 144hz 1920x1080 a couple months back. Haven't noticed a huge difference in the smoothness but maybe that's because my eyes are too busy being caressed by the 30% larger screen, crisper image and colours that don't look like they had been left out in the streets of Delhi to gather pollution for 3 years. If I had both of my old monitors side by side with a pure white image, my old primary would look disgustingly yellow compared to my secondary monitor. When I switched the primary, it's the exact same thing, but now the secondary looks yellow.

Ya i tested overwatch on medium details and was over 100 fps at pretty much all times, looked pretty close to high details to my eyes too. So thats one vote for 1440p, i think i would also like a 27" monitor my current one is 21.5". Thats another thing, if i went to a 24" 1080p monitor it would look worse in regards to sharpness cause it would have bigger pixels.

    I went from 1080@60 to 1440@165.

I'm not sure I could go back. I've been looking at 4k screens but I just don't want to give up my higher refresh rate.

So to you the higher refresh rates are a more noticeable upgrade than resolution over a standard 1080 60hz panel?

Would depend on the games you are playing I think more than anything else, much as you said in your OP.

If I had to choose, I would probably go resolution over refresh because I like eye candy. Luckily I didn't have to choose and got both.

Ya thats the thing that has me so indecisive, i split my time between shooters and mmo's/rpg's pretty evenly. That 1440p monitor i linked is priced so well, i dont think i will see another 1440p panel with a 3 year US warranty for 200 bucks anytime soon.

Thats neither 1440p nor 144hz lol.

Well consider it this way, 1440p will be great for wow because ooooo pretty.. but 144hz will be nice for overwatch if you are super competitive. Then again, 1440p will also make overwatch look nice too. If you're a competitive gamer and are risking losing tournament money, use 144hz. I'd say higher resolution will give more value and enhanced experience compared to the noticeable yet minimal difference between 144hz and 60hz. I will say however that the refresh rate is a nice thing to have. I just transitioned from a 60hz 1440p (amazing btw) to one of the 34 inch acer x34s and I can say that other than my computer itself, it has been the BEST purchase I have ever made related to pc gaming.

Edit: incase my response was vauge... more resolution = more good inhmo

I went to 144hz. Yes it does make a difference when games are played to 120fps (120 due to Lightboost).

    Basic computing is noticibly smoother.

I went for 1920*1200 to 1440p, so guess that counts. And it's way better.. At least when going from 24" to 27".

I've had a 144hz monitor too, but outside of very few cases, the higher resolution wins hands down.

You need a pretty beastly machine to run newer games on 1440p @ 100+ fps. I went with a 1080p 144hz monitor myself as my computer is 3 years old and i do not plan to switch it out for a long time other then the new GPU i got a month back. I'm an FPS gamer at heart even tho WoW has been a huge part for me the past decade.

    Why not both?

    ASUS PQ279Q
    Acer Predator XB271HU

Also I went from 1080p@60Hz to 1080p@144Hz. Everything is noticeable smoother. Especially once you get used to 144Hz, 60Hz will feel extremely sluggish though. Next on the menu for me is 1440p@144Hz and IPS... one can dream ;D

That'd be ideal, but i can only afford up to 300 bucks atm for pc stuff. I am actually kicking myself for not buying the dell 1440p 165hz monitor, i think it was on sale for something like 300 bucks on cyber monday, i just knew id need a GPU upgrade if i went both 1440p and high refresh rates, thinking back tho i shoulda grabbed it.
