our children don't inherit the earth from us
    we borrow it from them

    Oh, semantics.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

    How about this:

This isn't our planet, we just happen to live on it.

That's boring, you're boring. Something to really think about is that we're made from star stuff. We are borrowing particles from the stars.

If an orange wasn't orange, would it still be an orange?

I never see the point of dissing semantics, after all they're the meaning of words themselves, and that's kinda important to having an effective conversation in the first place.

    Not really though.

When you have something first and then someone else takes it over down the line, that's much closer to those down the line inheriting it than it is the first ones borrowing it from those who will get it later.

Yes. The color was named after the fruit, not the other way around.
A long time ago there was no word for the color 'orange', which is also why people with orange hair are called 'red heads' etc. Red was used back then for the red we know now and for what we now know as orange.
Your question sparked something in me.

Uh, the point it you can say or children are inheriting the earth or you can say we are borrowing it from them. Either way they get our legacy, it is a frivolous distinction to make, hence "semantics".

The difference between them inheriting and us borrowing seems to be meaningful don't you think? Suffice it to say, if it's a semantic difference it's a meaningful one by definition.

Something to drive one insane: What does reality really look like? You see it with your eyes, but each animal species see it different, so how will you know anything truly looks like even remotely the way you see it?

I think legally, you can't enter a contractual relationship like borrowing with someone that does not yet exist. Therefore the second phrase is just nonsense.
Also this is most likely Jay seeing how he is banned... and this is the hot garbage that he usually posts..

Well, it's pretty late in the year, but someone had to make a run for the title of Most Blowhardy Post of 2016. I think we have a winner!
