They are different movie types really. I love both films. Alien is definitely a suspense/horror movie, Aliens is all action.

Not sure about space marines, WH40K comes off as trying too hard.

Of course StarFleet is military, why even argue that they are not? Each Starfleet capital ship is run like a military base. Literally. The only differences: it's in the future and in space and it's moving around.

If UN had an army - that would've been the best analogy for Starfleet
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side

I understand where you and people that don't like it for that reason are coming from, but that's part of the fun for me.

The Imperial Guard is more in line of what I like traditionally in sci-fi military, but I do enjoy quite a few of the Astarte Chapter's lore.

No, it's not the same. UN peacekeepers are provided by members when needed. Blue helmets. It's not a full-blown organization like Starfleet.
In one of the DS9 seasons Starfleet rogue cell tried to trick UFoP president to enact martial law in order for Starfleet to gain direct control over the Federation.
Starfleet is both military and police btw. Not to mention science and medical departments.

UN peacekeepers cannot even dream to dream about that.

P.S. Real armies also report to a civilian commander in chief (president).

Because everything is more badass in space.

Would you like to be a delivery guy in your city ? Probably not your dream job
Would you like to be to deliver something from Mars to a station orbiting the 4th moon of Saturn ? Hell I would !!!

Space makes you a better person, it's science !!!

Don't let Gene to confuse you. You must remember the context of Star Trek. Humans defeated all the evils on Earth. Earth is paradise. Vulkans are logical so... That's the foundation of the Federation - peace, exploration and prosperity. In this sense Starfleet is not military but just a fleet of science and exploration ships. But also diplomatic and thus armed with defensive weapons which later during wars with Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Dominion, Whateverans evolved into offensive weaponry.

Gene is talking about foundation. We are talking about "reality".

    1. Equivocation. Armed Forces - military. I know why they used armed forces - context of the Star Trek premise. They just couldn't use the word military there. Don't let the marketing trick fool you.

Also in this very point - they explain it as what UN has now but with an added expansion that there will be time when it will be a full blown military organization which we see in the TV series, besides Enterprise of course - it predates Federation.

    2. This is how all western military forces operate. President as commander in chief over the joint chiefs of stuff (military stuff committee - please SEE the word military there, do you see it? it made it!)

    3. Then it says that during peace times Starfleet must explore and diplomate. but in time of need it must maintain peace and security. That's equivocation once again - means WAR and Policing the shit out of peacebreakers.

its been confirmed on nearly all the shows ST EN, ST TNG, ST VOY, ST DS9 that Starfleet is not a Military devision

I would consider Picard to be military, you could make an argument for Kirk, but by Picard's time starfleet has definitely become a military force. Picard even has a military maneuver named after him.
