Called me out of the blue today and told me that they now offer faster internet for cheaper. Apparently they now have fiber lines to my neighborhood and I'm eligible for it. Currently I pay $84 for 28MB download and 1.5 MB upload (was $50 for 2 years but promotion ran out). They need to redo some wires and get me a new modem and I'll pay $65 per month for 1000 MBPS Down and 1000 MBPS Upload. No promotional price that jacks up in a year,No installation fee, no new contract. Basically called me and said " you are paying us too much money for too slow of speed. Can we increase your download speed by 35X and your upload speed 666X with no money out of pocket and save you $20 on your bill every month"- "Well shit yeah you can!"
For someone that has dealt with AT&T before, this has me kind of wary. Why in the hell would they do this? They could stiff me for shitty speeds and charge me more. After getting all the info from the guy and setting a date to get new modem/rewire, I flat-out asked him - This doesn't seem to be your companies MO when dealing with customers. His response makes sense on the surface - Customer Retention " We've lost numerous accounts in your neighborhood and it's getting worse. One of our competitors is offering the 1000/1000 speed for a similar price and we are trying to keep good customers from switching to them"
So, I was curious if any of you have had something similar happen to you? Am I missing the fine print here? Am I metaphorically walking into a trap with them? Like I said, everything seems legit but I have my doubts about ATT
I'm dubious about the 1000 upload speed because mines been shit everywhere I have ever been but I'm also ignorant when it comes to fiber vs speeds available. But to be honest, there is nothing I do in my house that will ever require either 1000 down or 1000 up. We haven't issues with the 28 we've been on.
