No, top 500 is feeling special because they know that no one can come close that isn't in a team and only plays solo. If the system is more based on personal performance, more people will be GM and the top 500 will fluctuate more, thus invalidating the current top 500's position as "snowflakes".
There is a reason why most top pro players when they stream are in duo queue: To compensate for each others' fuck ups so they stay the same rank on average.
