It's a somewhat recent discovery, so I figure many people (especially older) never got taught in school (i.e. were taught they looked like lizards with scaly skin).

I'd love to meet someone who believes dinosaurs happened, but refuse to admit they had feathers. That's simply counter-intuitive.

most people who are adults today were taught in elementary school that dinosaurs, including pterodactyl, did not have feathers. (and haven't had a reason to think about the topic since)

Never heard of anyone reputable denying feathered dinosaurs. What I've heard are peoples opinions on how dinosaurs should be portrayed in entertainment. If people want scaled dinosaurs in their entertainment then that's fine in my book. Sometimes reality isn't as exciting as fiction.

Because the popular image of Dinosaurs as giant lizards looks cooler than Dinosaurs with feathers.

I like most people don't really follow Dino that's much. I heard that some Dinos had feathers, didn't know they all had feathers. Like most people, Dinos with or without feathers doesn't really affect my life.
Just think of all the little things about more recent history we still get wrong.
