There's more to it than distraction politics, a tax return especially with people running for presidents can reveal conflicts of interest, who they owe money to and how they handle their finances. If someone is going to run the country shouldn't you know who they might be beholden to and what their vested interests are?

We are talking hypothetical here, what if a presidential candidate has investments in blood diamonds or connections to outfits linked to the mob. It's not just a distraction it shows real insight into who they are and what may drive certain policies.
