I wouldn't hold my breath for 2 DPS classes in one expansion.

Samurai's heavy armor always made me think it seems more appropriate as a tank, which would be fine by me.

SAM tank, NIN dps, I'm good (I'm just not much of a healer)

I think it will be DPS. STR based, which would give us 3 str based jobs, 3 dex based, 3 int based (assuming RDM uses int as main stat, which would surprise me if it didn't), 3 vit based, 3 mnd based. Not to mention a lot of the maiming gear (for lnc/drg) is medium-ish armor and would work reasonably well for sam (aside from the job specific gear). Still leaves a one class gap between melee dps vs. ranged (where I count casters as ranged).

Just my guess. Dev team is already having a heck of a good time ironing out the balancing of the current tanks and healers. Adding another into either mix would just be a headache-inducing shit sandwich.

Honestly Sam as a dps sharing gear with Lancer/drg makes sense imo

Clearly it's going to be a Gun Blade Samurai who dashes out of Melee to shoot things to be the perfect counter part to the melee dashing Red Mage. /s

Just my guess. Dev team is already having a heck of a good time ironing out the balancing of the current tanks and healers. Adding another into either mix would just be a headache-inducing shit sandwich.

The thing is, I really feel that tanking and healing feels good with the three class spread right now. Unless they make a 4th healer or tank highly specialized and have a strong identity to set it apart from the existing 3 I feel another tank/healer would hurt the game more than it would help. Heck, it was one of my biggest issues with WoW, the DH class (At least tankwise) didn't need to be added and their addition arguably muddied the tank playing field on identity even more. (Won't get into that though since that will get this thread way too far off topic)

I've always been on the less is more philosphy when it comes to class roles though.

They are pretty good. At this point I think they want to quell the notion/stigma that you basically NEED a WAR for the OT role and SCH as one of the two healers.

I mean, I guess one could argue the solution would be to make another tank who fills the OT role well, but honestly I feel if they did that it would steal the WAR identity instead of fixing the problem.

Know what, I'm doubling down Gunblade Samurai, I stand by it for the sheer amount of awesome it would be.

Though I suppose if SAM is DPS they could also go for duel wielding swords..... Gunblade or go home.

Mystic/Magic Knight maybe heavy armor and sp is a specialist in magical offense abd damage mitigation. The magical version of the warrior who like rdm build charges only in melee to unleash either a burst defensive skill or burst offensive

No dps stance but and tank stance does not lower dps skills appear weaker however.

Hey if Warriors in WoW can go bandage spec then everything is possible.

So if that datamine is anything to go with then we're only getting two classes this expansion which was sorta expected I think.

I want Necromancer and that isn't even on the table probably for a long time. At least you have some hope with Blue Mage .

Probably just to ease in the fact that this expansion has a combat rework as well. They arent just making 3 new classes this time, they are reworking 1-70 for all 13 existing ones as well.

Some screenshots from the upcoming end of HW has shown her without it, its possible that because of some events in the story she leaves the scions to join or lead the Stormblood.

Draw Out skills a'la FF Tactics, with all sorts of buff/debuff/AoE fun. Though knowing SE they'd probably make it have some horribad mechanic like fucking NIN magic.

I don't see why the assumption is only 2 jobs. For Heavensward:

Las Vegas - Announced Heavensward, teased Dark Knight with the Batman shirt.
UK - Revealed Dark Knight, teased gun user with the James Bond hint.
Tokyo - Revealed Machinist and Astrologian.

I don't remember there being any sort of tease or hint for Astrologian leading up to Tokyo.
