If that is what you think about my position, you have completely missed the point of an entire year of posting on my part.

I want what I want politically because I believe it helps the most people at the most efficiency. These policies that we are all arguing over are about in the end, making for a better country for us and our children. You think I want misery, pain and death upon Trump supporters? I have and continue to want to beat them politically. I want them to understand why they were wrong to believe what they believe. But that's it. As Obama put it, it's intramural. In every other way, I want nothing but the best for them.

This is not abstract. I live this. My best friend in the entire world... someone who is like a brother to me and who I would do anything in the world for, is an ardent Trump supporter. A healthy percentage of my friends are. Others were Bernie Sanders supporters. I strenously disagree with their positions and I think they are badly informed about Donald Trump's agenda. I have occasionally told them as much. But that's... nothing... compared to the importance of their friendship to me. We don't have to agree on everything.

I have long stated that I understood why many people voted for Trump, and why many people supported Bernie Sanders. I think they're wrong and will come to regret it, but they have the freedom to be wrong. I got no problem with the vast majority of Trump supporters who are decent, hardworking Americans who are angered, rightly or wrongly, by our changing country and changing world and see Trump as an agent of restoration. This was not the first nor the last time "Take America Back" worked in an election. There is a reason why it continues to work. It resonates powerfully.

I DO have an issue with Trump supporters and Bernie supporters who wage kamakazi campaigns against this country's future and politics, because they're mad. But that is a small minority of supporters. Even them I would NEVER want die. I would never amuse myself at their physical suffering.

That's pretty much my position in a nutshell as well. I want all people to be happy and well, regardless of their political views or anything else. Granted, some people's narrative or actions make it much harder to build a world in which all people are happy and well, so I do and will oppose them by certain means - but I will never cheer at their misery.

You need to do some research into the prison system. The threat of violence or the actual use of violence are often used to control prisoners.

Which is made necessary by prisoners often being violent to begin with. The only way to have a completely non violent prison, law and law enforcement system would be for all criminals to be non violent. This is by default not the case. Locking up someone is an act of violence, it however is one that is being done as a direct reaction to the acts of violence in the form of various crimes the criminal in question engaged in to prevent them from continuing commiting crimes and protecting society at large.
