This is a pretty inane thread, but I'll bite. There would never be a such thing as "robot slavery" as "robots" are not and could not ever be "people". These "robots" would be designed to perform specific tasks and would have no need for any sort of enhanced AI, especially to the point that the "softies" would consider them "sentient beings". In other words, life-like AI's only purpose would be to exist as life-like AI. Task-performing robots would exist only to perform those tasks. Conflating the two is just silly.

People have "lost their jobs" throughout history as methods change. That's progress.

People lost jobs as switchboards when phone technology improved. People lost jobs as typesetters when we invented things like a typewriter. People lost jobs in manufacturing as we improved our methods. People lost jobs in farming as it became more efficient with better tools.

Robots are robots. They're automatons designed for a specific purpose. They're not sentient and they're not slaves.

People tend to lose jobs at a rate that is something a reasonable human can plan for. When the rate of change is yearly, what person can plan a life around that?

When you have a glut of people to fill a job, they all have to compete with the people who will do it for the lowest cost.

It isn't a joke. At all. It's serious. People are saying "when robots become people", wasn't there a time when people looked at slaves less than people? They'd dismember them for working too slow. They would pick crops from the age of 5 years old, working 15+ hours a day.

If we are(as some believe) made in the image of God, and we create robots in our own image, dont they already share our intelligence? They are from us.

At the very least, shouldn't we have something in place ready for their own civil rights?

Human society is made to accomodate humans, any robot that would be made to work with humans, would be made to be as human like as possible.
a robot teacher, psychiatrist or doctor would all benefit from being more human-like

People will inevitable lose their jobs to robots who can work tirelessly and endlessly without getting sick, needing time off, etc.

When do we put a stop to the slavery that will become the robots? Sure you'll say "hey relax, they're just freaking machines" but when do we recognize their need for civil rights representation? How long are we gonna allow it to go on before we give them equal rights?

When/if they acquire sentience. Until that time they are nothing but fancy hammers.
